A/C & Car Issues

Hello all. Im enjoying my Yaris except for one little issue. Whenever i use my A/C the entire car basically drags and shifting is extremely rough and feels like the car jolts forwards. Also it feels like there is no power to the engine at all and feels like im forcing the car to go. Is it just a normal thing with a small car like this or am i the only one experiencing this?

Takes a lot of power to run an AC. I can tell mine coasts down a lot faster when the AC's fully on.

I don't notice that much of a difference. I usually run my A/C like all the time during these months. Even at night, I run the A/C because I like the dry air that comes out, as opposed to the humid air.

I would get it checked out. It sounds like something is seriously wrong with the compressor.

I am very impressed with how little of an effect the AC has on my Yaris.

I notice it as moderate reduction in power when accelerating, but also more so as an increase in fuel consumption.

Really in fuel consumption??

A week and half ago i drove ( from 11am - 10:30pm) roughly 167 miles w/ my friend in car w/ A/C on doing about 68-74 mph in hot weather..... I had 2 bars knocked out (she pointed it out), and running on third one when heading back home~

Its normal, mine does it too, I'm use to it, just rev a bit more to get the car going from 1st gear~ Its just a weak car, thats why it does it. My Mitsubishi didnt do it, it was 1.8 Liter....

My sister's Echo felt noticeably sluggish when I would turn the A/C on and tried to accelerate. I think it's just a normal effect of a power sucking system in a small car. I try my best to not use A/C unless it's the last resort.

i can feel the drag from start up in 1st gear. But then, i try not to use it too much in the city. It's not too much for the engine..

mines a tad sluggish with the AC on, not terrible though.

BUT I do get a weird musty smell sometimes from the AC...

got any ideas what that could be?

Kioshi : I wind my car out to higher RPMs when accelerating with the A/C on to compensate for reduced available power, thus higher fuel consumption..

Sounds like my car is acting like everyone elses so i guess thats the good thing. :P I just feel like with the A/C on that it feels like im always climbing a hill. Theres just very low power to the engine. When im not using the A/C its much better. And yes, i used to be getting 75-80 miles on the first bar of gas when not using the a/c and this week using the a/c ive only gotten 55 miles on the first bar.

The only thing I notice when I use the A/C is that I use up more gas than usual. I have MT, though, if that makes a difference.

if you have the MT and a tach, watch how fast the rev's drop when you push the clutch with and without the AC on, theres a real big difference for me anyway, so that tells me that there is a large drag on the engine while the AC is on.

Its perfectly normal for such a small motor. I notice it myself and I turn off the A/C to get on the merge ramps on busy highways here in the city. Its already bad as it is with how slow the car is without the A/C lol.

I really dont think i notice a discernible difference when shifting with the A/C on or off in my yaris.

Indeed, this is the first time ive ever actually thought abt it.
