My car just got totaled!

So, this was a hit and run. Bad stuff. Hit me on my side and I'm pretty sure it will qualify as a totaled vehicle.

This is my first accident, so I don't know what to expect when the adjuster will give me a value on my Yaris. Basically, I'd like to hear some opinions on what it's worth and what he should give me, because I hear they try to lowball it.

My car is a 2007 Yaris. Excellent condition, with airbags, automatic, etc... non powered windows, though. Oh, and 41338 is the mileage.

I tried a bunch of sites like Kelly Blue book and Edmunds, but each give me different amounts.

Any help is appreciated.

Good to know you are OK. Be sure to give the doctor a visit for a physical.

There really isn't much to expect since different insurance companies handle things differently. Make sure you are covered if the car is sitting at a tow yard or something. If your not covered then get it out of there as quick as you can.

Glad to hear that you're OK

You're looking at this all wrong. Total it and buy a new one. There are some really good deals on the Yaris these days.

Just glad to hear you're okay

What is this, like the 7th Yaris totaled this year so far?

When my Elantra was totaled I was also worried about what the insurance company would pay as Hyundais aren't exactly know for their resale value.

Even with 20k miles on it the final payout was actually more than I'd paid for it brand new... not sure what your insurance company will do, but it's not impossible to come out OK with insurance companies.

At the rate Yarii are getting wiped off the roads, it may start costing a lot more to insure them, like they were sports cars or something.

I have insurance through Progressive. When I totaled my HHR last year, they used the highest value from NADA. I didn't even have to fight them for it. The car had about 70k miles on it and was a 2006.

THat's who I'm with, and had the same experience in March when i totalled my '07 HB. Rates went DOWN with the new car, coz of the ABS and side-curtain airbags.

Thanks, but I have no medical. :( I'm pretty sure I'm ok. No backlash or anything. Wish I could have said the same for the car. :(

My insurance will move it out tomorrow, once I sign the paper work at the tow place. Thanks.

I have 20k more miles, but my Yaris was in excellent condition and only a couple years old. BTW, what is your insurance? I have Liberty Mutual. Hopefully they can give me 7k or 8k. Looking at edmunds and kelly's, that's how much it should be.

Actually, in this case you do have medical insurance. Same insurance that covers your car. Either you have Combined Single Value, which you can allocate some of that towards medical bills for an exam and what-not, or you have a seperate Medical coverage category (every single state requires some medical coverage) which, again, you can use for your exam.

Go get your ass to a doctor, especially if it was a side-impact like you're describing.

That's what happened with the Civics around here. hopefully the insurance companies will distinguish between the hatch and sedan as I'm sure most of the modded Yaris are hatches.
