You decide... Good idea? Bad idea?

http://news.yahoo.com/odd/upshot

Cheers!

They should drop a bag full of ketchup on their cars right at the end for added realism.

I think it's stupid. Someone wrote that they should have painted an M1 Abrams Battle Tank instead

totally stupid. Especially the last part,"As for drivers who become can't process optical illusions, Dunne argued that they have no business on the road in the first place.

"It's a static image," he said. "If a driver can't respond to this appropriately, that person shouldn't be driving, and that's a whole different problem."

Just for saying that the dude should be fired.

It doesn't say if they've tested this at all, I bet they haven't. Who knows what effect it could have on people with certain eye conditions that leave them with good vision, but makes them see certain things differently.

is it just me, I can't seem to locate the speed bump, the pic is at a bad angle....

the entire road surface looks flat to me....the lower parts like the shoes look elongated...weird...

::EDIT::
just read the article, ok so it is just an image and no real speed bump.... Original posters thread title is kind of misleading but not their fault...

I think this is the most stupid thing ever. To me, all this is saying is that it's ok to run over children as long as you do it slowly.

Exactly. It might actually have the opposite effect. Now drivers will become less sensitive to braking when seeing children in the middle of the road, real or not.

Lots of emergency brakings leading to lots of rear crashes- how can that be better than a regular speed bump?

I'm pretty sure he means emergency brakings as in braking quickly in the instance of an emergency.

I guess society doesn't value or respect human life?

Running over time after time of an image of a child? WTF! This is a mentally sick idea! What is this world coming to?

Reports on some local red light cameras have shown that rear end crashes have gone up, and more than accidents from people running red lights have gone down since the cameras were installed.

They really should of made the concrete raised & conformed in the shape of the kid so when you run it over it actually would feel like it.
Then it would scare the crap out of the driver.

With motion sensors that activate a speaker letting out a little girl's scream. THEN the ketchup packets.
