Wheels rubbing on inner fender - Toyota Yaris Forums

Ever since i bought my 08 Yaris sedan the tires will occasionally rub on the inner wheel well lining if i hit a bump or depression in the road, this would happen once in a while with the car loaded and two kids in the back.
Yesterday i took 3 women to the airport and the tires were rubbing most of the way, these 3 women are all close to 300lbs and i'm 230lbs.
so i'm wondering does my 08 Yaris sedan just come with soft suspension?
Could there be an inherent problem?
What do i need to install to up the cars carrying capacity.
This problem doesnt occur on my other car an 05 Echo sedan.

I can't say that the shock/struts are soft but in my case the they just suck, but then again the roads out here in PR suck even more. I changed my shocks twice already from Tein shocks to tokico blues and I noticed a huge difference in stability and comfort maybe its time to change them.

I got this problem in my 05 Echo, but I had me (200lbs) and a buddy (170lbs) up front, and 3 people in the back totalling 500lbs... along with 100lbs of stereo in the hatch.
Never had it with just 2 people in the back totaling ~380lbs, plus stereo.

Wouldnt it be an inadequacy in the springs and not the shocks that would make the rear of the car ride so low that the tires rub on the wheel well lining?

You got it, it's strictly a spring issue that determines ride height, and generally, the amount the car's suspension compresses over bumps.

The OEM springs are pretty cushy but I've never had the rears rub. Even lowered with fully loaded trunk and passengers. Not with OEM tire/wheel package or even with the 215/35/18's on duty. Mind you, I baby it over OBVIOUS bumps but have hammered a few. My fronts are more likely to rub the liner if I hit a bump or dip at highway speeds or on a ramp (at speed).

The owners manual states load capacity for occupants and cargo combined is 845 lbs.

You were 33% over the limit even if there was no luggage. If they had heavy bags, you were way over the limit.

Your car has a two fat chick limit.

I am still baffled how you manage to fit three (3) 300lb (3x300lb) women in the car and possibly still have space for luggage.

The Yaris has soft springs. This is an unlowered sedan with 300 lbs (guess) in the front seat and 370 lbs in the rear seats.

...now I know what my car would look like lowered.

I agree. The 6' 6" 250 lb boy doesn't really fit in the back very well either.

300lb per woman?

I don`t know how things go in the US but in Europe we are allowed to put 320-380kg (700 ~ 840 lb) into the Yaris (depends on Model and Options).

So i guess your car was just heavily overloaded.
