I'd just like to see any credible evidence at all that there really is a problem at all. Maybe there is. But mainly, and keeping to the evidence, this sordid episode has only knocked my opinion of Prius owners down a notch and made me even more ashamed of my native country than I already was.

it's more than just the american tradition.... it's the ignorant tradition, and ignorance spans cultures, races, and generations.

^Not at the rate that they're losing money from all recalls. This could be the next blow to their demise (hopefully not)

Haha.

The upper limit estimate on their loss from the recalls so far is $US 5.5 billion:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/...n6304471.shtml

Toyota makes billions each year (200 billion in 2009). That 16 million is a drop in the bucket for them.

Fact: There is/was a world wide gas pedal problem, not just in the US.

Fact: GM has already been hit with over over a 1 million dollar fine invloving the same laws that were violated.

Fact: Toyota is in deep crap over the gas pedal issue in China also.

I can see Toyota getting some payback from the goverment if any of the other manufacturers receive anything that could be perceived as preferential treatment...

Some how I think we all know that Ford, Chrysler, and GM messing up soon is a very real possibility.

There is NO way I'm getting rid of my Yaris...besides, it was made in Japan. No out of control American parts here. Speaking of, is anything happening to the pedal manufacturer, or is Toyota taking this all on it's own?

When wiil this issue be put to rest? The faulty gas pedals were not failing because of where they were made. The pedals made in the US happened to be a different (faulty Toyota design) than those made in Japan or elsewhere and that is where the trouble lies. It had nothing to do with poor mufacturing or workmamship.

Also, be aware that even cars mas in Japan are full of international parts and there is nothing super human about Japaneese auto workers!
