DONE DEAL!

"And they lived happily ever after..."

After wheelin' and dealin' and losing about three pounds in the process, I finally bought the '08 in the color, trim, and transmission I wanted, for $1k off MSR ($12,400 for automatic with convenience and weather; $13,700 out-the-door total) and $1,800 less than the '09 on which I'd put down the deposit. Even losing the $500 (new dealer tells me the old dealer is "legally obligated" to refund that, but), I still come out $1,300 ahead and am totally happy with the car and the buying experience. All's well that ends well!

awesome man, is it lift back or sedan?
With the economy and gas price right now, they need to sell cars like yaris for cheap, really cheap or else noone will buy them at the price of $17K plug tag, title.....
But congrat and welcome to the Forum

3-door liftback; I was trying to replicate my beloved 2000 Suzuki Swift hatchback as closely as possible, and think I came pretty close with this... Every year, seems Toyota adds more bells-and-whistles (add-ons) to drive the price up; that's not too cool...

Looks like a great deal you got there.
Even with the discount and tax rebate, I paid a lot more for our 08 4-door LB RS.
Enjoy your new ride and drive safely. Weather and road conditions are far from ideal and too many crazy drivers out there!

That's applicable only in Canada. We get a $1,000 off the PST (Provincial Sales Tax) and another $1,000 off under the Eco-Auto Rebate Program sponsored by the Federal Government of Canada.

Actually this program and the high cost of gas a couple of months ago was what prompted me to buy a Yaris.

Am enjoying modding my "project car".

darn you.. i'll just put a hybrid sticker on my car and get the tax credit .. lol

put just make a temporary engine cover that says hybrid lol

I wish the US would do something .. not fair that a hybrid escalade gets a credit at 20mpg and our cars dont...

I lost my $500 deposit SO FAR, but the second salesman insists I'm entitled to it back by law, regardless of what the first salesman tells me... I'm trying to decide whether ot not to pursue it (at least by writing the dealership owner about it, if not pursuing it legally) given that this is my local dealership where I'll have to take my car for warranty work; how mad do I really want to make them, LOL??? Meteorite Metalic; will try to post pics; let's see...

Also, anyone know about the lack of ABS in the '08 being a problem??? I've never had it and have lived this long; not sure why I "have" to have it now.

GOOD color choice

My buddy has a 2007 w/o ABS and he does fine. I have never had it before
either, but will learn to live with it. Fortunately, I don't have to drive in
heavy traffic all that often, and try to look ahead to avoid potential problems.
This winter ought to be interesting.

About the ABS, while searching for a new car, I thought I had checked that on the Yaris and didn't find out it didn't come with it until the day we went to buy it, and since it's something I've always had, well, I had my concerns. Anyway, the salesman at the dealership tried to reassure us that since it's a very light car, the lack of ABS shouldn't be a problem, and well, since my husband is a very peculiar individual he decided to test the brakes, so he requested a puddle for that. After the test he was convinced it was good enough.

One thing though, after driving the yaris for a few days, I had to make a sudden stop because of traffic and noticed the difference of not having ABS, which is, I kept hoping the car would stop, it felt like I was almost sliding through the pavement, and it wasn't wet or anything. Oh well, nowadays I just keep a very good distance from the car in front of me, which in the long run will help me avoid accidents.

There ya go, Lita. Anyway, it's those agggressive road-raging American SUV drivers who are always tailgating... Not us mellowed-out foreign subcompact drivers... : D
