New Yaris owner wanting info pls.

ok, ive just gettin my 99 Yaris GLS 1.0 last week and from driving a Rav-4 i must say it is fantastic, handling wise its like a little go-cart. and stops extremely fast! however im a bit concerned power wise, its absolutly brilliant for a 1.0 i must admit. but previously i used to drive a Rover 216 Bubble (as well as the rav) which had quick and easy mods like, bigger throttle body, cool air feed, alluminium plenum chamber, de-cat etc etc.
question is is, what kind of engine do i have? i used to tinkering with the legendary 'k' series engine, and how does it respond to certain mods?
o, and i belive the VVT-I is the equivilent to rovers VVC (variable valve control) is it not?
thank in advance, dac.

1NZFE is the 1.5l motor that I believe is available in the RS version in Europe and other parts of the world and is standard in the US. The newer Yaris is more prevalent on this board due to the fact that North America just recieved the Yaris. The previous incarnation of the Yaris is known as the Echo in North America.

The echo is or should be the same car as the previous gen Yaris (dac's) in the UK. The engines may or may not be the same on previous gens either, dont know what the Echo had. The UK seemed to have a lot of 1.0 litre engines and diesels. I know Ive seen a ton of them in MaxPower magazine from the UK (stopped buying it cause its like 13 bucks a copy, but its got boobs if anyone cares....).

i was looking at a few UK yaris forums, cant seem to find them right now, but if you could find one, i am sure they would be much more knoledgable about your car than most of us here in north america :)

dude drop into www.toyotaownersclub.com

plenty of us yaris owners on there, and plenty with the 1.0l versions (myself included), this site is mainly US/Canada orientated, and they only just got the "Yaris", our first gen yaris was known as the "echo" in the states & canada. But yeh, otherwise join up to TOC, you'll get more responses there reg. your engine (no offence to you guys, just you never had this car in the states with this engine)

The classic model is SCP10 . The motor that you have is 1SZFE. Compress ratio is 10.0 :1. 70 PS and 9.5 kgm. If you looking for bigger throttle body, Dog Fight Pro and I.Mec make them. If you looking for tubro kit, only HKS make for SCP10. The only VVT-i control is Power Enterprise Cam Controller.

Yeh but the Camcon VVTi controller is not compatible with the 1SZ-FE. Oh and I got a Turbo kit for the 1.0l, just not fitted it yet :p

But I check on the Power Enterprise website (http://www.power-enterprise.co.jp). The list say The Camcom VVTi Controller is compatible with 1SZ-FE. Since I never deal with this motor, I maybe wrong.

Sorry mate, I stand corrected then, when the CAMCON first came out I only remember it being applicable to the 1NZ-FE (Yaris Engine wise), otherwise I would probably already have one. Hmmmm very interseting, thanks for that
