One GREAT Reason to Buy a Yaris!

To everyone that has the Yaris...

Here is a link to a CNN article that sums up the best resale value for vehicles. Would you figure? The Yaris is SECOND only behind the Mini Cooper for value retention over five years.

http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2008/...luebook/9.html

Check it out.

if you want to know about yaris resale, get this: i bought the yaris new in june 2007 for $12800 which was pretty much retail (3 dr hatch, 5 speed, conv package). 1 year and 3 months later (sept '08) and 21k miles and i got $11,100 trade in value. this was not in lieu of fiddling with the corolla price, which i got for $300 over invoice. i may have sold it for more privately, but not by much. for me it was worth avoiding the hassle.

that is a 13% loss in 15 months and 20,000 miles. i was impressed.

Yeah, we got beat by the mini cooper. Oh well, ours cost a heck of a lot less to own!

I hear you on the 10 year thing Max! I'm just now settling into mine...two years later. I don't mind the loss of power over my last car. I've gained SO much more versus power. The biggest thing for me is that I have peace of mind and a great dealership that supports this little car.

It is no wonder to me that I love this sheepish little car.

...now comes the sound system. I can already smell the fiberglass setting up! *whoo, I'm dizzy*

Usually you an sell a car on your own for more money. However, tax is a consideration when trading in. In Colorado we pay tax on the difference between the price of a new car and the amount that you got when trading in. In your case 11,100 X .07% = $777. I would have to sell the car to a privet party for $1,000 more than trade in to be worth my time and effort.

since i live in MI, we must pay tax on the full purchase price, so i didnt have that benefit. 38 states do as colorado does, and it does make trading more palatable in some cases over selling privately for the reason you stated. there is legislation pending in MI to change this. hope it passes.

nevertheless, i dont think the kbb private party value was any higher than what i got. the dealer gave me close to $900 over kbb trade value.

I don't really get it either. I for one will not be paying 15 grand for a 5 year old mini(59% of 25K). I think it made the list purely on the novelty factor??? I mean its made by BMW. You'll be taking a brand new 3 series to the shop every month... I don't even want to think about an economy-beemer after 5 years.

You would think in a state where the auto is king that they would do everything possible to make buying new cars more attractive in terms of tax savings.

...but we are a state in major budgetary crisis. the automakers are pushing hard for this. the state is whining about the loss of revenue that will ensue. it looks like it is going to pass. Jennifer Granlolm can suck it. she had a chance to bring 2 toyota plants and a honda plant here but cow towed to the unions, who are going to eventually be forced down to pay levels of non union toyota/honsa workers. rant over.

It doesn't surprise me. However, I wonder what impact the cost of gas had on those numbers, and if lower gas prices will influence Yaris' value over the next five or ten years. About nine months ago you couldn't get a Yaris where I live without going on a waiting list: good nes for resale value. Now I see fleets of them on the lots as I drive past.

The good new for us Yaris owner: gas prices are probably not going to drop anymore than they already have. The bad news: gas prices are probably not going to drop anymore than they already have.
