Head unit in my 4 door sedan ....??
I want to put a monitor/CD player in where my current radio is - now, I looked at the HU thread and saw everyones stuff but I'm not sure if any of you started off with the same radio I have.
How can I go about getting rid of my stock radio and getting something new in there? Any ideas/thread links would be very nice - I did search, but can't seem to find anything Here is my current dash, because I don't know what my stock set up is called. I know it's not the double din like what a lot of other people seem to have: |

If you're replacing the stock stereo then you should be able to fit a double DIN in there (from what I've read at least, I'm not an expert or anything). I've got the same stereo in mine. They could have easily fit all of that stuff in the stereo system into a single DIN space, but they decided to make large buttons and make it take up a large portion of the dash.

You need to buy the non-integrated head unit thing that leaves space for the double din (sorry, i dont know what it's called lol). I heard somewhere that it's about 90 dollars from the dealer which really sucks. IF you find a cheaper one let me know! i've been searching for a while but havent been able to find anything :-(

Check out this thread it explains and shows pictures of the plastic trim piece that you need to purchase to switch HU's:
http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13401 In the thread I list the part number, but later realized that there are separate part numbers for 06-08 and 09 sedans for the radio trim: 55405-52640 is listed as being for 06-08 55405-52790 is listed as being for 09 TRDSparks has the 06-08 version for $58 I believe that the difference is color - I think that the 06-08 is silver and the 09 is darker. Also, I believe that you will need the Metra or (equivalent) install kit to fill the gap (since the Toyota opening is 20mm wider than standard Double DIN). If you look at the picture in the above thread of Pompeii66's Sedan, you'll see what I mean. |
