Cash for Clunkers Story!

Took a 93 GMC Surburban, in all its rusty glory, to a Kia dealer in NJ.
Mom lives near by.

170 mi trip oneway, when we got there, "The Beast" had 330,000 miles on it, and the brakes had sprung a leak and pedal was going to the floor!!
It still drove great, Gonna miss that truck!

Mom bought a 2010 Kia Soul + I cosinged and traded the Beast, she got her new Kia Soul With a ton of options!

And to tie it all into the YarisWorld...

I got her 07 3Dr liftback with 53,000 miles

Meteor Metallic
Auto 4spd
the cd/mp3 player and aux port
carpeted yaris mats
side curtain and seat airbags
ABS
15in steel wheels (soon to be replaced I hope)

I love it, it is called "The GoKart"
Its the only way to explain how it feels, I took a 6hr trip, 339.3 miles, mostly doing 80 mph on the pa turnpike into NewJersey and back, I got 37.6 MPG

If I learn to post pictures/blurr plates, I have photos of all the rides mentioned above!

I do however, need a passenger side fender, thanks to a PA Deer back in 08.
Anyone got a MM stock fender, hoping someone has custom ones maybe???

Congrats on the Yaris. The Surburban was in great shape. The Kia looks cool.

A $2 billion increase in funding just passed the house, so there might be more Cash for Clunkers to come.

call me a conspiracy theorist, but i think all the scare about the program ending was just to get people into dealerships before the end of the month! i'm glad the programs going to continue and the OP is another example of why it works! congrats on the new purchase and welcome!

that's quite a clunker! going from a huge truck to a Yaris might be weird but you'll find around here that size hardly matters =)

welcome!

Here is my yaris!

And the Deer Fender.

Mom loved the yaris, even thought about a 5 Dr LB, just something about that kia she couldnt resist! Power windows and locks were the orignal problem, the yaris didnt have them when she injured her arm, making the yaris very uncomfortable for her.

I hate to think that my truck will be crushed and the engine was destroyed with chemicals!

Looks great!! Your Yaris is almost exactly like mine (minus the deer mod)...that silver metallic paint sure looks amazing in the sunlight!!!!!

I skipped out on the power windows and doors on my Yaris and am very much enjoying the old-school approach to opening up one's car. My last two cars had so many electonic dipsy-doodles going on for this (and problems associated with the same) that I was very glad to have an option for a simpler approach which was (shockingly) not even available on my previous ride! Manaul controls build character, imo!!!!

This was posted in the morning news on the Cash for clunkers program.

August 2, 2009 LaHood: Car rebates will stop unless Senate acts

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Obama administration says the popular "cash for clunkers" program will be suspended unless the Senate approves an additional $2 billion.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in an interview with C-SPAN on Sunday that he expects the current $1 billion in funding to be exhausted by the end of this weekend.

The administration hopes the Senate will add $2 billion to the government rebate program that gives consumers cash incentives to trade-in old gas guzzlers for more fuel-efficient vehicles.

LaHood says the administration will continue the program until the Senate acts on the proposal. He said dealers will be reimbursed for deals in the pipeline and that the government will make a "good-faith effort" for transactions beginning Monday.

Too bad my dad waited until the last day, and can't find the title for his car.
