do you need the piece to repair the trim? does it make noise when you drive around?

no its a small black piece that holds the air vent's fins when you rotate it. without it they don't sit right and you can't open and close them. i'm trying to get it out i'm afraid to turn the fan on incase its in there

Hmm, not much you can do other than:

A. Keep trying to fish it out
B. Keep disassembling till you can get to it
C. Buy another clip or vent assembly and hope it doesn't jam up the fan.

Good luck, lol

I don't believe it will get into the fan but if you don't want to buy another black piece or the whole assembly keep taking apart your dash

There are several other things you can try before taking the entire dash apart. If you own a vacume with a small hose, the small hose may just be small enough to slide down there. You can get to the top of the fan by pushing in the rear sides of the glove box and removing the glove box door. Then remove the plastic door that covers where the cabin air filter can be placed. Maybe you will be lucky and the part will be setting on the fan blades.

There's a shelf at the top of the air box, where it would end up. Unfortunately to get to it you have to take the top of the dash off and then pop off the duct above the radio. There's no way to get to it from the fan side.
