I do, most stealerships service dept just try and sell you a $800 new alternator.

Replacing just the "brushes" alone won't necessarily do the trick. You do realize that the brushes need to be properly aligned with the slip rings? You can also easily find an OEM alternator replacement for around $100.

Are you talking about replacing a stock Yaris alternator with another one or replacing it with another Yota part that fits but provides greater output?

My idea of a oem alternator is one from toyota or denso. Not happening for $100.00.

I'll be damned if I can't drive down to my U-Pull it yard and buy an OEM Denso atly from a 15k mile car. What's the problem with that? It's an OEM alty and you can make a bracket and load a second alty into the engine bay of the car.

...you know what if you think that simply replacing the brushes is going to give you a real improvement...you're going to have fun down the road.

You've got to align the "new" brushes correctly. The heat created from misalignment of the brushes can cause the slip ring insulator to become brittle and break.

What about replacing the rectifier and regulator? Replacing the stators?

Man this guy is all over the place, first he says oe alternator for $100 bucks then 15k mile yaris in a junkyard then slipped on his insulator ring.

An OEM alternator out of a pull it yard. What's so hard to understand? It is a slightly used alty. What's the issue? I don't recall saying new. It IS better than taking the risk of opening up the existing alternator and not putting it back together correctly...and ending up with a dead car...for $100-ish dollars.

Don't gripe about not finding one for a C note and then criticizing my solution. I found you people an OEM alternator for right around $100. If you don't like it tear apart your existing alty and have it burn out on you...IDC.

First off no one is going to buy a used alternator from a junkyard with no warranty. You only came up with that idea because you know you can't find a new one online for $100. Also good luck finding one from a yaris with only 15k miles on it. Junk yards lie through there teeth about how many miles are on their parts and vehicles.

Your right no one would buy an alternator from junkyard for $100........most of us would talk them down to at least $60 for it....warrenty.....there is no warrenty worth much on an alternator......they just give you a rebuilt one from Mexico or China....I would rather have a used OEM for $60......

And yes you can get one for that......toss in a starter and most times water pump for the $100...jsut gotta know how to talk to them.

No warranty on an alternator? How about bosch's 2 year warranty with roadside assistance? That one is brand new and not rebuilt in mx or china. I guess you have us all beat on the proper way to shop junkyards.

Nah....shopping junkyards is pretty easy....they want to sell a part,you want to buy a part,most the cars there they bought or inherited from insurance companies and paid at best $500 for.....

Find a yard where you can pull your own part,that saves you cash from them pulling the part,and most times they will dicker the price.....especially if you get told like $100 and tell them hey I got like $50....9 times out of 10 I walked away with the part...

When your poor you gotta beg borrow or steal the Fu....you know...lol

I know it's easy, we all know how to shop junkyards. I don't waste my time there for alternators. Unless it's a rare hard to find alternator.
