No Prius. And Now No Diesel

If you want a diesel option for your Yaris...well...forget it! Dieself fuel in NJ is going for $3.69 a gallon and gas can be had for $2.99.'

So the diesel option doesnt save you any money just like a Prius doesnt save you any money (over a Yaris)

That 70 cent premium for diesel in effect cancels any mileage benefit. That along with the added cost of buying the diesel option makes it cost MORE (far more) money to own than a gas engine.

So if you want to save money its time to cancel the diesel wish.

Instead wish for the 1 liter gas engine!

Personally I think the Yaris already has outstanding mileage. Maybe not compared to a 3-cylinder Geo Metro from 1992...but compared to most things of the last decade it's really good. Of course my last two cars got 12 & 19mpgs (city) respectively so in comparison this little Yaris is a super-econo-car.

Ive heard the 1 liter engine doesnt get all that much more than the 1.5 liter. But every bit helps!

My Yaris got 42-44 mpg on vacation this summer at ~60 mph.

Automatic too.

lol that's funny cause here in CT gas is 80-90 cents more per gallon. It ALMOST makes me want to drive down and waste 1 1/2 gallons and fill up then go home and maybe save money that way LOL.

funny story: I filled my own tank near mitsuwa in edgewater, nj and i got the strangest looks from EVERYONE...then i remembered its illegal to fill your own tank 20min later..

All NJ is full service by law. Something about its too dangerous for us to pump our own gas.At $2.99 for a gallon of regular also some of the cheapest in the country.

Go figure that one out.

When you figure out why gas is cheaper where they have to pay someone to pump it for you, you can start on this one:

Diesel fuel is taxed over the road tax and home heating oil (the same thing) isnt taxed.

Diesel fuel in NJ...$3.69/gallon

Home Heating Oil " ...$4.35/gallon

it isn't the only place, a few towns around here make it illegal to pump your own gas, and they also have the least expensive gas in the state.

we get cheap booze and cigarettes but expensive fuel and car insurance. personally I'd rather if it were the other way around, I no longer smoke and I can afford pricey alcohol.

Actually not entirely true. We were at Six Flags this pat May. Stopped at the Wawa just up the road from there. Of course we had his diesel VW. He still had to pump his own fuel.

Love the torque of the diesels. The sound of the turbo spooling.

Not to mention that, on average , the engines tend to last a lot longer over the years and miles (trini_per4mance might be the exception to that, but his were done in 5 years, whereas I'm talking 10+).

no lack of crooked politicians here.

i just wish we could trade drive-through liquor for lower insurance rates. we have the highest auto insurance rates in the country.
