Throttle Position Controller
I think my TPS has gone bad, the CEL code 2120 and 2121 keep popping up and my gas pedal loses all sensetivity. After I clear the code with my Scangauge, the car goes back to normal, until the code gets thrown again, usually under hard cornering. Any suggetions for a fix?

under hard cornering? could be a bad connection or ground somewhere?, check your battery and fuse box grounds along with your ECM grounds, then check connectors for corrosion, also check the cabling at the pedal, could just be a loose connector?

All wires are snug and there doesn't seem to be any corrosion. all looks brand new.

take to a dealer and get em to replace it under warranty, if ur out of warranty go and scream at them and tell em that its dangerous bla bla your life at risk bla bla complain to head office of toyota bla bla and try to get them to replace it for free even if its out of warranty ( or cover most of the cost) and pray it aint too expensive if you have to pay for the whole thing

Yes.... this is definately a serious safety issue and Toyota should address it.
My advise would be to first go to the dealer and relate the problem. If that that gets no results, contact Toyota corporate ASAP! With all the past publicity of the gas pedal problems, I susupect that the dealer will take care of it. |

TPS problem...
Before you take it to a dealer, try this:
Near the throttle pedal, there is a connector with aprox 4 wires that is very close to the firewall. remove and re-insert the connector. When you get it apart, get some DAMPENED micro fiber cloth and wipe the pins that insert into the plug. I had the same problem and it was a loose connection/poor contact in the tps connector. Please do it quickly! Mine started with the dead-pedal scenario and one day went to full throttle without my doing anything. After cleaning and redoing the contacts, I have not had it reoccurr. you need to squese the connector lock in order to take the plugs apart. It's really simple but you need to squeese hard. I used a 4 1/2 inch channel lock plier to do it. http://www.amazon.com/Channellock-42.../dp/B00004SBCR |
