ESC (Stability Control) into non-ESC 08' Yaris

Out of sheer curiosity, what would it take to install an electronic stability control (ESC) system into my 08' Yaris that did not come with it from the factory? My wife has been in a few situations where it might have come in handy. I believe it was installed standard equipment in all Yari' after 2008. Lucky us... The OEM equipment is there though, so that is encouraging.

I am trying to make it a bit safer to drive in the winter, among other seasons.

Thanks in advance!

It would require far too much to make it feasible. You would have to add the entire ABS system, switch the ECM and cluster, and add the VSC switch assembly and wiring.

I'd say buy some good snow tires and call it a day, like CTScott said, it's too much trouble.

I personally think all these electronic safety things aren't needed anyway.

Black_griffin6, you should check this out- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3m24bjkfg0 Not the best demonstration of ESC but it is convincing. I went with my buddy to pick up his BMW in NC once and had a first hand demonstration of it - more convincing. I understand where you are coming from though...

CTScott, your sig. image is awesome! It makes me want to troll for totaled Yari'.

Many thanks peoples!

That is pretty impressive!
The only thing my Yaris has in terms of the electronic assists is ABS, and the only time it actually turned on for me was when it snowed here last year. However, it still didn't keep me from sliding, I think snow tires would have helped me a lot in that situation.

I wouldn't be going 70 MPH on sheet ice though. XD I don't really live up north where there is a lot of snow and ice, I mean it's only April here and it feels like summer, so I guess I don't really have as much of a need for it as you might.

snow tires are good, driving classes are even better. Plus if you check with your insurance agent you can go to the ones that give you a discount on your insurance bill.
