CTScott has posted some pics in a thread. Search and I'm sure you'll find it.

The first time you take it off it is a bit of a bear. I use a very wide flat blade screwdriver to pry up one area enough to break the seal of the black goo. Once you get it started you can get a finger under it and flip it right up. Just be careful not to bend it with the initial prying, otherwise it will leak when you put it back on.

thanks for the pic. when I get that off ,how does the white plastic thing come off??
Do you lift up the whole thing at once or pull 1 part at a time.???Does it unscrew or just pull?
I would think the seal would come from the plastic thing rather than the goo....
additional pics would be great..
What would I expect to pay for a new filter??? Autozone

The top of the tank has a ring that screws on. Toyota makes a special ($300) spanner tool to remove it, and you may be able to find a generic tool from an auto parts place. I use a 3/4" x 3/4" x 12" long piece of hard wood and a hammer to rotate the ring loose (and to tighten it later). The black goo is just for sealing the metal cover. The tank itself has a giant o-ring to seal it.

Here is the ring removed with the O-ring visible:

Here is the connector being removed:

Here is the fuel line being removed by releasing the locking clip:

Here is the vent hose being removed by releasing the locking clip:

Here is the sender unit, which you can lift right out of the tank once you loosen the ring and disconnect the three above:
Sender - Top.jpg

The plastic clip on the top of the lower portion of the sender is what holds the pump assembly in place. Once you pop the clip you can pull out the pump. I thought that the mesh strainer on the bottom was the actual filter, but everyplace that sells the filter sells the plastic housing that surrounds the pump as the filter. I suggest blasting the strainer with compressed air to clean it as well.

Rockauto.com has the best price on the filter assembly at $23 (elsewhere it runs about $40):

In that case, if you are going in there to change the filter, you might as well do the rest.

Toyota only sells it as part of the whole fuel sender assembly. You can buy aftermarket ones such as the Beck/Arnley 0433008 for about $20.

That number is not a Toyota part number, it is the Beck/Arnley part number.

Hi Guys,

I have 2009 toyota yaris with ~65K Miles. I tried to look for the Fuel filter part# on RockAuto but it looks like they have the fuel filter for 2008 but not for 2009. I am not able to find 2009 fuel filter anywhere.. Does fuel filter assembly is totally different in 2009 compared to 2008? or I will have to replace entire fuel pump..
