2014 Fiesta ST Finally Priced

Here is the long awaited for hot hatch from Ford. Starts out around 22k via the Ford build page and once fully optioned out will cost just under 27k. I really like the design and the fact that someone is finally bringing a true hot hatch to the US. I wish I could say that the price was a shock but with the way car prices have been trending, it isn't. Only time will tell if people lay down their money for this. I would, but that price is approaching truck/Wrangler money and that is the next direction I am heading.

I'd buy the base, and soup it up myself. As long as it came with 197hp and 6 speed auto.

I guess my issue is, for about 2 grand more you can have the focus ST with ~250hp

"It's kind of expensive considering the Focus ST is only a couple of thousand more and is has lots more space in the back and a big trunk."

I drove a Focus ST last month and it was not impressive at all. Best feature was the seats, but only the front seats. No way adults are going to sit in the back.

The Fiesta will be a lot more nimble, and of course it's a two door. I'd take a close look at it before saying no.

But whats the power to weight ratio between the two?

And imo, the 2 door Fiesta looks hot, while the focus is just another sedan.

That one got me curious.

The Focus is easy as the data is easily attainable. As per the Ford web site, it weighs in at 3223lbs and 252hp (it is a bit of a fatty) putting it at 12.78 lbs/hp.

The Fiesta is more difficult as they haven't specified a weight for it. The two curb weights it lists on the web site for the base fiesta are 2537 (manual) and 2575 (automatic) and I am just quoting the hatchback putting the ratios at 12.87 and 13.07 respectively. I have read that everyone is assuming the ST is going to weigh more than the regular fiesta but we won't know until more information comes to light.

so the Focus is 12.78 (with difinitive numbers)
the fiesta is 12.87/13.07 (though we are not sure about)

Honestly at those numbers, it is probably a wash (about even).

I will say that I prefer 4 doors as I will soon have a family of 4. Baby seats in the 3 door yaris are interesting to say the least. I do prefer a 4 door hatch over a sedan though.

The problem with the pricing is just like with the pricing for the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 Edition. Amazing specs and sounds like one hellova sweet ride, but at around 60k it is just silly. People can argue all day long, but in the end you can buy a Yaris LB, Versa Hatch, etc for 10k less and quite possibly build a better ride for that same 27k. Not to mention the fun that you would have not only building your "lesser" ride to that point, but quite possibly being able to smoke that Fiesta.

Glad they brought the 2 door finally. I was dissappointed when the normal Fiesta only came in 4 doors.

The Fiesta ST would definitely make my short list.

I mentioned the Fiesta ST in a post yesterday. I probably should have started a new thread, but instead added that post on the "I was going to trade it in..." thread. The ST caught my eye as one of the "25 Cars Worth Waiting For" in the April 2013 Issue of Car and Driver. The ST is only available with a manual transmission () per the article. The other car in that article that caught my eye in that article was the Ferrari F70.....approximately 900 HP and lighter than a Yaris.

Don't quote me, but I believe the US is only getting a four door hatch model Fiesta ST. Everyone is has already or will be getting the two door option.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking too. You could go a couple grand more and get a larger Focus or sink that extra 5-10k into a tunable cheap hatch and reap the benefits. I am looking forward to seeing how this Fiesta sells. People have been begging for a hot hatch (just like a diesel pick-up) and now that the auto companies are doing it, it will be interesting to see if these same people put their money on the table. I wish the base price was under the 20k mark, it would be more palatable for what is essentially still a subcompact.

The price is too much. Cut $5 grand off and it could be worth it.

Why the 6 speed auto?....It wouldn't be as fun (as a manual) on Skyline Blvd between Saratoga Gap and Hwy 92....nor on the Panoramic Hwy and Hwy 1 in Marin....nor Canyon Rd, Pinehurst Rd, Skyline Blvd, Redwood Rd, Grizzly Peak, Fish Ranch Rd, Wildcat Canyon Rd .

I like many things about it. I'm just really having trouble getting my head around the fact that it's an automatic .

What about the car I referred to as "Bronsin's dream car?" () on the "I was going to trade it in..." thread day before yesterday --- The Fiesta 1.0 ---- 3 cylinder turbo , 123 HP , 43 MPG HWY and high 30's CITY. $14,000 base with an extra 1k for that engine choice. The only negative thought I had re you liking it = 'He might think it's too expensive...not cheaper than a base Yaris'.

I read the same thing...either in the '25 Cars Worth Waiting For' article in the April 2013 Car and Driver or another recent article.
