15x7 or 16x7 with an offset value in the neighbourhood of +40. Wrap them in 195 series rubber and you're good to go. Fronts will sit nice with that setup. Add 5 to 10mm spacers in the rear to push them out a bit more to line up with the front.

On a 2003, you would run 185/55R15 tires or 195/50R15.
185/55R15 is the stock size of the T-Sport. |

Yeah, ET10 on a 7.5 is asking for trouble.

I have 15x7 et35 with 195/50 tires. They will rub on hard compression. My old 16x7 et 42 with 205/40 tires fit perfectly with no rubbing at all.

Depends on how low you want to go.

No offset number lower than 35, on a 7 inch rim with 195 tires.

I once ran 16x7 with 195 rubber, ET42. Liked the way the front sat, but wanted to widen the track in the rear. Used 10mm spacers giving me an effective offset of 32. Liked the look, but did rub some in the rear when lowered 1.5 inches. Spacers are available in thicknesses ranging from 3mm to 15mm, with 5 and 10 being the most common. I reiterate, you can always widen the track with a conservative offset. You cannot narrow the track with an aggressive offset wheel. This is how mine looked with the described setup. The MK1 will be similar.

^ pretty much why we are trying to ensure he settles with nothing less than et40. He would be starting off safe, and if he so chooses to in the future, can widen out with spacers. We are making headway here, getting him off of the 7.5 et10 path he briefly entertained.
