Unhappy o nos, my imac is broken :'(

went to eat, came back n the screen was black but still running. did the usuall thing, reboot it...still black. took the computer apart, cleaned it, reset everything i could reset. vram and something else near my airpor card.

still the screen is black but computer is running...:'(

bad time for it to go bad cuz now i gotta wait 4 month till i buy a new mac computer.

any1 had any issues or know how to fix it?
after doing several researches online. some say that piece around the airport card went bad, others say its the back light of the flat panel that went bad.

im thinking to salvage the computer but then again its still a working machine with no monitor...

i have a 17 inch screen sitting around in my room....any idea on how to make the connection?

thx in advance

What model of imac? one of the new ones with 17" or 20" LCD monitors? Or one of the older G4 pedestals? Pedestal has a mini-VGA port, newer ones a DVI port. Either one will allow you to connect external monitor.

Backlight going out sounds like reasonable diagnosis. Or might be a power board issue. I had this happen in two previous "jellybean" iMacs. Supposedly with the 17 + 20" imacs the LCD inverter is often the culprit; maybe take it in, might be a warranty repair.

Or...have you installed any new apps or OSs? new video card? shocking new porn collection?

I just bought the mini vga to vga..should get it next week.

If the screen is out, possible to take it off? cause it will be in the way of my other monitor.
