I just purchased a new (red) Yaris

Hello all....

I have an '02 Celica that I purchased new, I still love it and have no plans to
get rid of it.

However, I wanted an inexpensive commuter car to save the Celica from excessive wear and tear and NY State winters. Also, I wanted a more pratical car for a daily driver.

So, today I comitted to purchase an '09 (carmine red) Yaris 3door HB with a manual tranny as I hate to drive an auto.
I will pick it up wednesday.

The only options it has is the "convience" pkg and "weather guard" pkg as I wanted to keep the cost down and the Celica will be the car for tearing up the pavement.

About the only mod I will probably do for now is to install a tach. I can't understand why Toyota chose not to include one for the 3door HB.

Congrats on the new purchase, the tach missing never really bugged me. I'd like to get one, but I hate the tacked on to the car look of 99% of the available tachs... post some pictures of yours when you get it!

Yeah, I wondered the same thing myself. However, after driving my Yaris LB for a couple of months, I realised that I don't really miss it anymore.

Congrats and welcome!

I wish it came with tach and temp gauge. I'm happy with the Yaris.

I can live without cruse controll. I rarely use it on the cars I've had with it, including my Celica.

However, a temp gauge would be nice.

I can't live without a tach, I look at that far more often than I do the speedometer.

Welcome to Yaris World and congratulations on your purchase. That color is my favorite! I have a manual and feel a weird sense of accomplishment when people look at me with that baffled face as they ask how in the world I can drive a manual without a tach. You just get to know your car. Enjoy!

I far believe you become a better driver when you can tell more so by the sound of the engine when you need to shift, or what RPM range your in, rather than look down at a gauge to tell you...

Its more of a "one with your car" feeling than anything to me, lol.

Oh and congratz on the new purchase!

Welcome and congrats on a the great choice of car! Like many of these guys have said, you can manage easily without the tach, but for me, this has helped me become a more fuel conscious driver by keeping my driving consistent and the RPM low.
Throw some pics up when you get it!

Of course, no one really "needs" a tach.

However, I am old school and like to monitor my engine, the most important and expensive part of a car.
I grew up in an era when the was no such thing as "idiot lights"

I will never understand why auto manufactures choose not to include gauges such as oil pressure, temp gauges, and of course a tach, just to save a couple of $.

That's why I listen to the engine for my shifting needs.

Congrats on the purchase! I love mine, glad i made the choice to go with the Yaris. As for the tach, I think the ScanMeter includes a tach...
