Does this happen to you?

My wife and I get stopped in parking lots all of the time by people who are curious about our '09 Yaris 3-door in absolutely red. Both men and women do this and almost everyone of them has positive things to say about its looks. In over half a century of driving, this has never happened to us before and it really feels kind of nice as we love our Yaris and certainly don't mind sharing its virtues with other folks.

I get confused looks when people in the Yaris sedan pull up behind me. LOL. I think it's because I rebadged mine to Vios. ROFL!

I dont get much love for my car, but i enjoy that its unique and every yaris around where im at is a sedan :)

I have gotten both reactions. The "where's the other 1/2 of your car" type. Mostly retired people over the age of 65 like my Mom. And "is that a hybrid?" types.
Mostly working people under the age of 65.

I usually get complements. I've gotten asked if it was a hybrid multiple times but it gives me an opportunity to spout off about how much fun it is to drive, and how much I love it... I get "Oh cool!" and "Neat!" from drive through employees when I open the left glove box to get change... I usually get asked what kind of car it is after that (it's debadged)

Sometimes people ask if it's an electric car and what mileage do I get, but less so now that there are a few more Yarii in the neighborhood.

Once I was looking at this huge awesome classic car from the 50's in a parking lot and the owner comes out, asks me what kind of car do I drive? I say "a Yaris" and the guy just laughed out loud. I don't think he meant it to be offensive, but he just couldn't help himself. I guess the Yaris is a funny car or something

Being 6' 2" I often get comments like "Saw you getting out of an interesting car" or "I can't believe you fit in that".

I've only got a few comments on my Yaris but they have all been good. My last two cars were MINIs ('03 and '07) so I was used to getting comments, especially back in early '03 when The Italian Job came out. The cars were somewhat unusual back then.

FWIW, I switched to a Yaris because I enjoy it in the same way I enjoyed my first MINI...in many ways more.

since i traded my hatchback almost a year ago, i seem to notice them even more. i never notice the sedans. i know they are out there. they just blend in with the crowd. not a criticism, since i drive a corolla, which doesnt stand out at all, but when i think of a yaris, i really only think of a hatchback.

I find it all depends of the type of car owners, usually i find that people who enjoy cars and tuning them love the fact that your fooling around with a toyota yaris. And others that dont particularly care about tuning and such are the ones that usually give me a ahrd time.......all that really matters is that the ladies love it ;)

Since picking up my 5-door I seem to get a lot more onlookers, then I did with the sedan. That may also be because of the Absolute Red.

If anyone asked me where the other half was I would probably laugh hysterically as my other car is a Smart car, and the Yaris is the car with lots of space.

People are always wanting to know who makes it, and asking if they can sit in it. They always seem to like the way the doors sound when they close. Most assume that it's a hybrid.

I usually get asked if it's a hybrid or an electric car. I'd say 8 out of 10 times though I usually get shit for the car. Alot of the autoworkers (and just regular people as well) here feel butthurt and lash out on people who drive imports. I usually just laugh it off because most of the people here who cry "buy american", are people who drive 7+ year old cars and need to go "buy american" themselves instead of complaining about someone else not doing it.

Nothing would sway me in my decision to get and love the Yaris though. Tough little car that was cheap in price, has some nice mods for it to make it even more fun and it's still great on fuel. Looks different as well, which was a huge decision in me getting it. I can't stand having a car that everyone and their mothers have.
