Perseids Meteor Shower
Who's up or will be up early to catch this in California, anywhere else in the country/world?
Missed last years, and slept all day today, so I have nothing better to do.....plus astronomy is cool

Had cloud cover last night. :( Orionids in October and Geminids in December are the next showers. The Geminids are the most impressive anyway, if you don't mind a little cold. They happen just prior to a new moon this year, so the sky will be dark! Woot.

I went out at midnight and then again at 4AM. The sky was pretty clear here at midnight and I was able to see quite a few.

I barely saw some for couple mins.... I might have to reach higher elevation to see some more tonight, stupid suburban/city lights......
Darb - do you have the approx schedule for the Orionids and Geminids for those months? I wouldn't mind the cold, but if its better than what i saw this morning, then I'm game for it... |

Most meteors in most showers are really faint, so you need to get out somewhere really dark, and hope for a night when the moon's not in the sky during the early morning hours. You see the most meteors between midnight and sunrise.

I wasn't up at 0400 to watch them but I was lucky enough to see just one while on my way to my car after a mountain bike ride and barbecue on Tuesday night.
