QUAKER STATE : Full Synthetic motor oil ( Horse Power or Torque Power ) : $19.99 ...
for 5 quarts and STP oil fliter at AUTOZONE . You could skip the oil filter and just use the Q.S. syn-oil at the cost of $4 a quart .

This is bad stuff GID. Go to European formula AECA spec a3/b3 you can obtain on the Web. UOA do not start to tell the whole story on what is a good lubricant.

As long as an oil's rating is SM, it is great oil and will provide all the protection a motor requires, REGARDLESS OF BRAND. If you take the worse SM rated oil and use it in your Yaris, the engine will last just as long as if you used the most expensive special brand also at SM rating. There is no better way to determine the goodness of an oil then a UOA. Too much religion on oil brands....and often one's bias toward brand X is based purely on emotion, the cool purple color, etc and lacking any scientific data. Buy the SM rated synthetic that is on sale regardless of brand and your motor will last 300,000+ miles. |

The thousands of UOA's (used oil analysis) for SM rated oil call you a liar ;-)

This is all making my head spin!
![]() I've just been buying the "package deal" synth from PeP Boys when they have those great deals. It's the 5qts. + a filter for $25 or so. I have the Pennzoil synth and am running the Castrol synth right now. I don't worship any special brand or "color" oil, I just look for the best deal on a name brand product. I'll guess SM is the rating on the current oils? SM is what Toyota wants then? ![]() Sometimes these threads can make some owners (like me!) nervous about something they just poured into their cars... ![]() Coconut oil????

Just look into AECA A3 specification and run against API SM. Other than polar nature of base oil and having a well cracked base stock (which is a production quality issue not unlike the "Vodka Wars") Oversimplified specification of HSRV (hths) beyond 3.2 centimetre gram second (cP,CEC L-36-A-90) and a well designed metal-salts additive at 3-4X what is allowed in API SM. Note: As you may know, I prefer coconut-derived oil base stocks as a superior molecule. Please, you may study this at nauseum on the WWW.

Thanks for the link Silky. That's very informative.
So, if I put the Q Synthetic in a Yaris engine, would that destroy the engine? What oil brand would you recommend with ACEA A3/B3 that is readily available in retail stores?

PENNZOIL Platinum 5w-30 is B rated as well , the 5w-20 is not . The SHELL synthetic is not , but many conventional ( regular ) oils are not . Been using those for years without an issue . I'm sure QUAKER STATE synthetic be fine as well , seen good USED OIL ANALYSISes for Q.S. syns at www.bobistheoilguy.com under U.O.A.s ( Gasoline ) . Check it out for yourself .

here's a QUAKER STATE 5w-30 synthetic Used Oil Analysis - Gasoline Engine ( U.O.A. ) with very good results , http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...67#Post1204267 . These oils can be bought at WALLY WORLD for cheap or on sale at many auto part stores , such as AUTOZONE ( another plug
) , A.A.P. ( sorry ) , etc..
