Ran over a Rabbit at 65MPH

It all happened so fast. I was coming home from work last night, and on the highway, I saw this rabbit on the middle lane!! And then, a fraction of a second later SPLAT!!!!!!!!!! Well, it was more of a loud rumble, as I crushed all the bones of this poor fellow. Anyways, I felt really bad for this little guy. It was my right front tire that caused his death. Now, that plastic piece in front of the tire, (what do you call it?) is very loose, and when I turn my wheels all the way left, it presses on it, causing some kind of noise. Is that piece easy to repair? Do I have to go to the dealer? Will that be covered under warranty?

Damn Easter bunnies are everywhere...

I think I know what you're talking about. I can't remember the name of it right now. I would take the wheel off and check it. It could be just a couple of bolts that flew off. Those plastic pieces are pretty strong. You could just go the dealer and buy the replacement bolts for a few bucks and install them yourself. That's what I did when I ran over a chunk of rubber bumper and broke an underside bolt

The chocolate eggs you get for easter this year will be laxative. You have been warned. :)

My girlfriend hit a rabbit on easter last year. She still hasn't heard the end of it...

I'm a bit disappointed to hear that there was damage from it. I've hit 2 rabbits, 3 possums, 2 cats, and a dog in various cars(I love animals I swear. They just love to run in front of my car). But I've never had any damage at all.

Then again I've seen how flimsy the wheel well liner is(now I'm wondering which plastic piece krazee jojo is talking about)

Sorry for the lack of pics, I'll try to see if I can get some tomorrow....wish I knew how it was supposed to be so that I can have an idea of how to put it. It is like, I can push this plastic thing in, and then it just pops back out again....

Do you mean the fender liner? The plastic piece that goes around the front of the wheel? If so, it has a few clips, you can usually just push it back into place ... but if it's cracked, you may need a new one.

Maybe that explains why the Energizer Bunny keeps going and going and going...

Yes, that's the word I was looking for. Thanks

Fender line....I think I may need a new one. Would the dealer cover this under warranty? I bought the car last year and it only has 13,000 miles on it.

They would first have you wait a whole hour or 2 while they inspect it to see if it was a factory defect. If they find out it was a road hazard collision, then warranty won't cover it. At least that's what they told me in my case.

IMHO you'd be better-off just buying the part(s) and installing it yourself at home. It'll save you a ton of time in wiping-off the rabbit guts and half-baking a story to tell the dealer

Thanks Krayzee jojo.....good idea. Now, where would I get that specific part? From the dealer, or would I have to order it?
