2007 Volkswagen Rabbit?
last night i was looking at cars, and then this Volkswagen Rabbit pop up. Alot of positive thiings about it, the price is not that bad, less than $14k with 0%APR. But horrible gas mileage, 20-26 MPG.
What is your opinions about this Rabbit? |

I was debating on getting that or the yaris but after researching the whole 20MPG issue. i decided to get a yaris. and in the long run gas prices are probably not going to decrease. plus the yaris is cheaper than the rabbit with the power package then the rabbits base MSRP. But i do like the Rabbits Audio set up

yea, stock rabbit comes with a crap load of options, I dont even think it comes with crank windows/locks... 10 speaker stereo is nice, but IMHO VW is just overpriced, and they arent as reliable as a Toyota, some people swear by them, but I would rather be safe, than paying a ton later... Not to mention I had family who owned a Jetta, brand new, off lot...2 weeks later about 4k in items started to fail, dealer ended up giving them a new car.

VW looks nice and I think the older gen cars are much more reliable but I don't have anything good to say about the new ones, they have gotten way to big and fancy for me, and gassing them up sucks big time, I don't miss my golf, Volkswagen is total luxury in the USA, No Polo here

Im a big MK1 VW nerd (check the garage) and all I can say is after the 2 liter 16v GTI they lost it in the US market. The cars became too heavy and frumpy. The main deciding factor in me buying a Yaris is because it reminded me of my old 1984 Rabbit GTI. Will they ever get back to that status, only time will tell.

Isn't it funny to think that VW used to be the economy automotive company?

test drove this and i think its slower than the yaris... its got a lot of lag.. 5 speed slow pick up on the highway..2.5l engine jetta base, also turbo base on the previous gti models, gas mileage suck..although for a 150 hp car with 180 torque on it sound wicked..race it on an up hill...

yes, I don't know what they are thinking as far as the gas mileage, makes no sense to me
I know they have a ton of crap on VW as far as sound proofing and what not and they are quite heavy, I have just lost interest completely with the newer gen They should bring back the Classic Beetle! That would get me interested.

Yeah I agree with what you guys said. My co-worker had a previous gen VW Jetta and from what I read and seen on the road pretty unreliable. Most of them I see one or two taillights out or the brake light doesn't work on one side or even one head light which was the case with my co-worker. From overhearing conversations it seemed he had a lot of problems. He traded it in for the current gen Jetta and I'm not goin got lie I think it looks better and seems to be a better car all around. I also like the new Rabbit but I've read some of the forums and it seems people are getting SUV mileage
I think VW does plan a TDI Rabbit I know they do for the Jetta but if the Rabbit got better mileage then I would consider one. But I wouldn't touch a VW as far as ownership at least not in the near future.

The only VW I consedered was the CityGolf and CityJetta because of thier low price, but they didnt get nearly as good fuel economy as the Yaris and I hear new VW's are very dealer dependant, not to mention the price for parts... The CityGolf and CityJetta BTW is the last generation Golf and Jetta sold as '07/08's with large price cuts, sold as bare basics cars

I used to have a VW Fox, great car for $2500, lasted for 10 years in my hands with a heavy right foot. Came stock with 81hp, so heavy foot needed. By the time it went, it was up to about 100hp, and had reasonably decent rubber on Audi 4000 rims. The reason I love the Yaris is that it feels like the Fox - hand-wind windows, manual box, base level comforts with good-enough handling but not much power. Corners are way more interesting than straights anyway
![]() Modern VWs just don't have the same feel, adn are so heavy that the new Jetta with 50% more horsepower than the Yaris is just as slow because it has 50% more weight as well. |

I have a friend with an 03' Passat wagon and the windshield wipers don't work.
What the hell? It's actually his wife's and she has to borrow his old Volvo when it rains. They should have bought a Toyota. I don't understand the following VW has; their cars drive very nice but their reliability is shit.

And why in the world do they call the car a Rabbit in the US instead of the Golf? Some people might get confused and think the car started the Gulf War?
Which sounds cooler... -Hi, I have a Yaris -Oh, nice car! or -Hi, I have a Rabbit -Oh how cute, can I pet it? Sorry about that, just semi-related mini-rant

ha, originally it was the rabbit then they changed it to golf now certainly because of the terrible ailment of nostalgia in the us we have returned to calling it rabbit
I think if they wanted to change the name back to rabbit they should have made a car much more like Yaris small, reliable, affordable, fun to drive and peppy, even a little squirrly that is what rabbit was and now that is what Yaris is
