Is the yaris really small?

Whenever i get in my car i always hear people make comments about it. Recently i heard someone call it a blueberry and a few weeks ago i had my friends getting in my car and there was people watching saying "how are those people going to fit" "its like a little clowncar" . Is the Yaris really that tiny? I guess im used to it now but i didnt think the yaris was that tiny.

Looks small outside, but surprisingly big inside.

We call our 2007 Yaris (sedan) the Limo because our other car is a 2006 diesel smart. So size is all relative in my mind.

^what he said...

No point having some giant car/pickup if you're not gonna use the extra space, so might as well go small :D

Every time I try to squeeze into a parking spot that's a tad too small, I always wonder why they made the Yaris so big.

people calling it "the blueberry" comes from the show Psych. Shawn and Gus call their blue echo hatchback the blueberry.

Everytime someone gets into my car they're surprised how big it is on the inside. But I guess Americans are used to bigger cars than we Europeans as well.

If you park amongst other cars you'll see that there are many that are smaller. I think it's a bit of an optical illusion mostly due to the "stubby" front end.

It looks smaller than it is, due to the proportions. The Yaris isn't a long car, but it's disproportionally tall and wide. The sedan looks a bit more proportional (especially in comparison to other B-segment sedans) but the hatch is an odd looking car.

It has really smart packaging. I remember the first time I got into a Yaris hatchback. The space was incredible, both front and rear.

It is taller than almost every sedan out there.

Took an impromptu trip to Ikea with the gf in her Neon, ended up buying an entertainment centre on clearance... but it wouldn't fit in her car. So we had to go back home and get the Yaris to take it home, haha.

The yaris is short, but it's quite high (which actually makes it look even shorter). It's not really a small car, if you compare it with older cars, the older ones (geo metro, first gen civic hatchback, etc.), the older cars aren't that much shorter, but they are still smaller from everywhere else (widht, height), which made them more balanced imo (with "real car" proportions).

Anyways, size doesn't have much to do with interior room. 3m50 well used would be enough to have a limousine comfort for 4 people. I had a Civic wagon before (4 meters long) and there was an incredible amount of room, more than in a Honda Fit (although the fit has more trunk volume because it's higher).

My ECHO was smaller and lighter than my Yaris.

It's not really that small. I used to own 3 Honda CRX's and those were smaller. And the seats were so low they were hard to get into and out of.

When I first got my Yaris hatchback I felt like I was climbing into a small SUV since it sits so high.

The Yaris is only small until you sit it in with another person, or 4 people and realize that for its exterior size, it is actually a large interior. I never think twice about hauling stuff in it. I bought our flooring at Sam's Club a couple of years ago and hauled about 20 boxes at a time with the seats folded down.

It can be a workhorse. I am almost tempted to convert it into a El Yaris (a la El Camino) once I replace it. Fashion a pickup bed and do some custom sheet metal work to make it into a collector's dream!

I'm 6'5" and I have more leg and head room in the Yaris than I do in my minivan. Plus with the back seats folded down there is a lot of cargo space. We hardly ever use the minivan anymore.
