He didn't know what he was doing. He should have used a polish, not a compound. Too bad.

Yeah lol i would never use ultimate compound on a new car its more aggressive than scratch x 2.0. I mean could you imagine rubbing scratch x not on just a scratch but your entire car. Its going to strip layers of unessisary paint.

Ive used scratch x 1.0 before on a car that had heavy oxidation but not on my car yet. Usually you only needa polish unless you have deep scratches. That you would use scratch x or if your lazy to rub it a bit you could use ultimate compound. Ive only used that on the area behind the door handles to remove the fingernail scratches.

I'll be using Ultimate Compound on my gf's Civic. Owners before-hand really neglected the exterior. So many scratches and stuff!!!

Use a microfiber pad the 1inch thick ones not the 1/4 thick pads you get better even results less likely to damage.

Okay, so should I clay bar first, or UC first? I'm thinking clay bar first, then UC, then wax (all after cleaning, of course).
I think I'm out of tire dress, so I'll pick some up along with some applicator pads. |

definitely clay bar first, if you just go and UC it, you'll have grab tons of "grit" off the car and start making it worse.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. hahaha. I'm sure my gf's FG1 will use up my new-ish clay bar (used only once). That thing is filthy! I swear, the previous owners don't know how to treat a car. I just replaced the air filter (freakin' looked like mud, that's how much dust/crap built up, with chunks falling off when I threw it on the ground), cleaned the MAF, made a new cabin filter, and changed the oil to Amsoil. Still haven't gotten around to detailing the exterior as it has been raining on and off in Sac.
