First DIY oil change but...
I just did the first oil and oil filter change (5k miles) but when I was trying to loose the oil filter every thing turn into a night mare!
The dam oil filter was tight as hell, I end up getting it out, but took me almost 2 hours do get it done! Happy Yaris

I just did mine today too, 5K. Not my first oil change ever though.
I was pissed because the oil filter wrench I have worked on the stock filter, but not my new Hastings one. Blah, now next change I have to buy another. What oil and filter did you go with?

Me... I had to lift it up; the ground effect spoilers all around get in the way, at least for me.

I would say no, unless you're small. That was my original plan.
But I have these tiny ass ramps -- maybe 4 inches tall -- and that was more than enough space.

Marcus,
The drain plug is at the rear of the pan so using ramps under the front tires not only gives easier access but helps the oil drain faster.

I am not a small person, and I never have to use ramps or a jack, I use a socket to get my oil filter out, the first time was a b****, I was down at the gf's, and I didnt want to go out and buy another tool, so someone showed me how to use a hammer and a screwdriver as a way to gain leverage, since your not going to be reusing the filter anyway. Worked like a charm and never did any damage. Now i put oil on the gasket and it comes off easy. I use Mobil 1 filter and oil.

...they're 4 inches tall. I'm pretty sure all the oil is out...
The earth is curved, and you were parked on the edge. All your oil didn't get out. =P

here's a easy to do ramp . Take a good piece of 2"x10" ( treated be better ) and cut it 24 > 30 inches long . The one end make an angled cut across so easier to drive up on . Then take scrap piece of wood , 2"x 2" ( or similar ) and cut 10 inches long and nail across the other end as a stopper for tire . Place in front of drivers side wheel and then drive car onto your homemade ramp . This way the car will be tilted towards the drain pan / plug for better drainage of oil ( pan slopes to passengers side of car ) . Should have just enough room to crawl under and perform oil change . Hope this makes sense .

I am not small and no you don't need ramps (DF210's). Oil filter simply comes off with a set of channel lock pliers...then re-installation is just hand tight. No tools required aside from the 14mm box end for the drain plug. Now that I have the fujitomo valve...I do oil changes with no tools at all. Quick and simple.

Interesting, could you explain a little bit more "fujitomo valve"? Thanks

Looks like the F-103 is the correct one for the Yaris (and my Xterra as well). |
