adding hp

If you put a good cold air intake, headers and a new pulley. Also take out the rear seat get and get new tires/rims. How much horsepower would you have? What else can you do other than a NOS, turbo, supercharger, or engine swap to add horsepower? (also I said this to a friend and he said "What about a short shifter?" and I had to explain to him how that doesn't raise your horsepower)

hmm. Well removing weight won't add hp either. It adds figurative hp. (which is about 1whp per 6lbs) But the engine still produces the same. You can reduce engine weight, ie pulleys and such, to add hp. But a rear seat and new rims don't a more powerful engine make.

Most bolt ons don't do much for the Yaris. A cai, header and downpipe, custom exhaust and set of pulleys is your best setup for hp increase right now.

New rims would give you your best suspension upgrade. A strut-tower brace and sway bars are good too. Also new strut assemblies.

I have been asking the same questions on here for a few weeks now, and after seeing the replies and reading threads, my impression is that you can't. You could easily drop $1,000 or more, but I really don't think that you would notice an appreciable difference in hp terms. The advice I seem to get from most is that improving handling would give you noticeable gains, but headers, CAI, exhaust, and the like would probably only make it sound faster. I think that there might be something to be said for the NST pulleys, and there is another kit coming out soon, but I am not completely convinced that it would not adversely affect other things like AC or something and there is the warranty to consider. It *might8 give you a slight gain in hp, but I still think that is a might, you won't drop seconds off a 1/4 mile or anything.

I can tell you that I bought some lighter and slightly wider rims, and I do feel that made a noticeable difference at high speeds and fast cornering. Won't make the car faster, but I think that the notion of making the car faster without replacing literally every part (I think you would want to do with a turbo or by swapping engines) and spending lots of money is pretty unrealistic.

Take it for what it is worth. I am by no means an expert, but I have read a lot on here and asked many questions. Seems to be the general consensus of the slightly more logical, practical (I am not trying to put anyone down here) owner that the only improvements will be noticed mainly through suspension stuff and that "performance" upgrades are probably just more for show/uniqueness. That is fine, but if you are looking for radical improvements in top speed or acceleration, well...just be happy with the car stock. Again who the hell am I to say, but if you are anything like me, then that might be the conclusion that you come to after looking/reading around. Good luck in your search and I'd be interested in what you ultimately decide to do.

EDIT: After seeing that you probably aren't looking to see what I just typed, I apologize...I re-read your initial post. I'll shut up.

Ha. Yeah that's spot on. i/h/e may add one or two whp but other than the pulleys we aren't getting much improvement. Right now I'm just dropping weight and increasing handling. Later there will be more FI kits available.

There are others in the Sponsors Classified section.

lotta cars with low stock hp, bolt on mods won't be that noticeable performance wise. But, you should've already known that when u bought yaris in the first place. But with all the bolt on mods, it'll make the car sound more pleaseable..

If you want some hardcore performance, get turbo, nos (if you must) and go from there.

You could always try removing everything that is not essential to the car's functioning and buy lighter parts. I imagine that you could drop nearly 300 lbs, and that should improve things a bit. It would be a miserable ride, but it might accelerate better.

But I would not be able to drive it! I sure would hate to get that sleek shiney thing all greasy and dirty. It's like stainless steel sculpture.

I believe we cannot use dry kits in our cars. Can't remember why so someone either validate that or tell me I'm full of shit. :)

I would go wet anyway. And look at $500-$1000 for a nice setup.
