Verizon Android Phone (Droid)
If there is anyone who is following this, Verizon is actually targeting Apple directly, claiming that their newest 3GS phone is far inferior to the Verizon Droid that is being released soon. In just over 8 days now.
Who here is waiting for it, and actually is considering buying it? I know I would be, pending I didnt already have a 1.5 year contract left with Tmobile. Ill just wait till they unlock it and then buy it.

Down with Iphones...
Nothing personal, but Apple is slipping, they are focused too heavily on overpopulating the market with the phone, rather than develop for it. Which is why Android phones are becoming popular very fast. Almost every provider has a high tech phone running Adroid market. (Tmobile has 2, soon 3) (Sprint has a couple) (Verizon is releasing its own "Iphone Killer") Even ATT is supposed to have one soon enough, although they deny the claims. Its very possible that Adroid based platforms could become the new Blackberry of the Phone world. Or I heard it from somewhere: Best scales down the current Phone platform market Android/Google = Apple Apple = Microsoft Too much isnt always a good thing, its how you refine it. Seems that actual phone users who want content and hardware are falling in love with the Google releases, and Iphone users are just enjoying what they have, but envy some of the great Android apps and function.

Droid will be faster, support more, and even by next year support FLASH on websites.
While iPhone either by Apple, or mostly AT&T is denied to do almost everything. This is why I jailbroke my iPhone and my gf's iPhone, because I do not care for these two companies BS. |

Actually all Android phones should support Flash by the end of this year, seeing Eclair is supposed to be released Late November, and all members should recieve it by Christmas, or at least that was the last updated release date.

I had Verizon, and then I got T-Mobile. So now I have 2 phones. I was thinking of switching to T-Mobile all the way once my VZN contract runs out, but after seeing the VZN Droid I think I'll stay with VZN. It already has the best coverage, and if you add this new phone to it, it's game over

Yeah, the Touch does suck balls. You'd get along really well with the Hero.
On screen keyboard is thousand times better on the Hero in comparison to the Touch. |

http://leoville.com/2009/10 See Leo's twiter update of October 25. I heard the guy's tech show on Sunday. He went extensively on how Verizon wouldn't be coming out with that kind of ad if they were getting the iPhone anytime soon. OP: I'll consider the android phone. I like the iPhone just fine but I think the plans $$ sucks. I was looking at the BlackBerry, but now that all these phones are coming out, I'm still considering my options. (I don't have a contract with any carrier right now, just the way I like it |

US cell phone users really need to band together to get out from under the thumb of carriers.
Our cell phone market sucks. Would you folks pay full price for a phone to get true freedom of choice and no carrier controlled apps and features? |

US customers get shafted on cell phones & plans... Oh... other than cell phones... everything electronics was MUCH MORE expensive in japan than in the US. So don't even try to point out "its made there, so its cheaper". on a side note... you people know that you can pick up basically any phone and use it on verizons network... Buddy of mine is a real estate agent and for the longest time used TRIO phones... but got so fed up with them he went out and bought an Iphone...works perfectly fine on the verizon network. Sure it may cost a bit more, but if you are willing to pay for it... you can have it. |

![]() At one point (before cell phones and the internet) AT&T was the phone company in the US. To address antitrust concerns, the government broke up the company in the 80's into regional "baby bells" (but AT&T as a company remained, it was just much smaller). Two of those baby bells were Southwestern Bell and Southern Bell. Southwestern Bell later became SBC, and Southern Bell later became Bellsouth. Those two companies created a joint venture wireless company and called it Cingular Wireless. Incidentally, around the same time, Verizon was created as a combination of other baby bells, including former regional wireless companies such as Airtouch. Around the same time that Cingular and Verizon came along, AT&T spun off a wireless company and called it AT&T Wireless; it was a separate company. Later, Cingular Wireless bought AT&T Wireless. Then more recently, SBC (one of Cingular's two parent companies) bought AT&T, and renamed themselves AT&T (and started the "the new AT&T" campaign, together with an altered company logo), since the brand was still so famous worldwide. So one of the former baby bells actually bought their former parent, in effect. Then after that, AT&T (the renamed SBC) bought Bellsouth, who was Cingular Wireless' other parent company. So at that point, Cingular was now wholly owned by one company, called AT&T, so the Cingular name also went away in favor of just being called AT&T. Quote:

I'm with you. I love my iPhone as well. I've been with Cingular/AT&T since like 2001. I havn't found anything better that has the features I need, coverage I need, for less money. There has only been one area in which my AT&T phone has not worked. And in the same area Verizon did not work either. I think they only thing that even remotely had a signal was Sprint (Delaware Water Gap is a cell phone blackhole).
I used to have an aircard with Verizon. Sucked majorly. Was extremely hard to get a signal worth using most of the time. It would work one day, but not the next, and it hadn't been moved. My dad has been with Cingular/AT&T longer than I have. And he travels throughout the country, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. He has not had an issue with his phone coverage either. (Granted he hasn't really been able to use it outside the U.S., but that's because his company doesn't want to pay for the international calling stuff or the roaming). I've tried playing around with a Crackberry or two. Totally not a fan. Features/settings are hard to find. Not very user friendly (I am very familiar with different technologies and can generally just pick something up and figure out how it works in a matter of minutes).
