I've been burned on ebay so many times. If the bid is too low, the seller cancels the auction. I've complained to ebay, but they don't care. I've even had someone send a different item that was worthless and yet ebay did nothing.

I just have to say booo that man. What the heck did he think was gonna happen, he thought nobody would notice how good of a price it was and just tease people as a joke. Makes me go hmmm to what the dealers real intentions was, it must of been a bet or something.

Not to jack the thread or anything, but what do you mean cancel the auction? they can't do that, that's against the rules!!!

You know, a good way to protect yourself against stuff like that on ebay is to bid only on items from sellers who have a good reputation (feedback in the 97% -100% range).

You can cancel the auction, saying that the item is no longer available (even after it closes). I had a guy do that to me recently with an OEM cruise stalk that I won for $1.99. I paid the second the auction ended and then the guy reversed my paypal transaction and canceled the ebay auction saying that he "couldn't find the item to ship"

I had negative feedback placed on me, that were lies.

Not be negative, but there a lot of dishonest sellers on ebay. Watch out for "no return," or "sale final."

I use those terms because buyers try to scam through the return.....

i.e: they say they shipped it back produce docs saying they did, that way paypal gives them the money back and they get to keep the item....

^ ah, ok, I see what you mean. But there is a process to follow, if memory serves both buyer and seller have to agree, correct? I only went through it once or twice, when I bid on an item that was later found damaged, and another time to go through the return process of an item.

But canceling an auction because you didn't make enough money on it, is just wrong.

It's definitely just wrong, but the seller can do it without agreement from the buyer. Your only recourse is negative feedback.

Yeah, most of the times people are just abusing the feature, but if you think about it, it's a useful feature. If I'm selling this beautiful vase, but my 1 year old climbs on the table one day and breaks it, what am I supposed to do?


Just sayin'... I buy and sell stuff on eBay quite often. Besides, the listing fee is not returned, so it's not like it's free for the seller to pull off this trick, so I think it's a good feature. I'm sure you've all seen those signs "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" in most stores... I find it acceptable for a seller to back off an item during an auction. Yeah, bummer for me, but in the end it'a not like I lost money... just wasted a little time, that's all.
