August '14 Yaris Sales: Down

August 2014 Yaris sales were down a staggering 83.7% compared to this time last year. Only 523 models were sold. Year-to-date sales are down 42.0% with overall sales at 9,741 for the year.

Keep in mind, it's likely that dealers are probably short on '14 models in order to make room for the 2015s.

If it makes you feel better, the Fiat 500L was down 97.0% (33 units sold) this month due to recall, although overall sales are up 204% (8,262 sold YTD).

Dealers hiding the ones they have, can't build and price anymore, only pick from what's on the lot, no manual no care, at least in the Gulf states, option it out and you might as well buy a Corolla, and the 2015 is just around the corner.

August sales of Yaris in Canada up. 937 units sold compared to 702 units sold in August 2013. Year to date sales also up. 6010 units sold in first 8 months of 2014 compared to 5547 units sold in first 8 months of 2013.

My local Toyota dealership sold there last 2014 back in July. It was a fully loaded teal SE. I haven't seen any 2015s yet...

Toyota and their dealerships seem to do their best to sabotage potential sales of the Yaris in favor of the Corolla here in the USA. I guess that I am the minority, in that if I cannot buy a new 2015 SE Manual Yaris in a color that I want, then I won't be buying a new Toyota at all - since I find the new Corolla (among other vehicles) to be a complete eyesore personally. I will keep hunting the used-car market until the Yaris that I want eventually pops up for sale, and buy that if I can find one before a 2015 SE manual that I want becomes available.

There you go. Even if they stop production there will still be good used Yaris's for sale for another five or six years.

For that matter there are still good ECHO's FS out there too!

The Yaris makes hardly any profit for a Toyota dealer, so they're going to push the Prius c and the Corolla. If you go in and ask for a Yaris—that's one thing. But the margins are higher on everything.

And I agree: if I couldn't get an SE in a manual I'd get something else, too. However, I am not in the market for a new Yaris and I still enjoy my '07.

However, if I were in the market, I'd have to go to California or Colorado to get an manual SE. I'd also then have to pay out-of-state sales tax (Oregon does not have any sales tax).

There are lots of great subcompacts on the market: Mazda2, Ford Fiesta, Chevy Sonic, MINI Cooper, Fiat 500, Honda Fit—all of which I can fairly easily get with a stick shift. While I really like the 2012-2014 Yaris SE, I don't know if I'd automatically buy another Yaris at this point.

I wouldn't trust any of those cars in reliability. Even the Honda is made in Mexico, and it is having a lot of issues.

When compared to the Yaris, I agree. The Mazda 2 might be close...but the real world MPG is lower.

Mazda 2 is the only one I would trust. I didn't see it. But the next gen one doesn't come out till the middle of next year.

That explains alot. I've gone to three dealers so far and to find a replacement Yaris, but they didn't have any manuals on the lot. One only had two used 2013's that were former rentals. The next best option was one of two new manual xD's on closeout for the price of Yaris. Sweet deal, but I passed on those for now. Looks like I'll have no choice to buy one next week if I can't find my Yaris.

The SE does, but the L/LE have regular old-school headlights still.

I agree for the most part, especially with regard to LEDs and HIDs. Whenever I see LED running-lights, whether it is a $60K Lexus or whatever, it just looks so cheesy/cheap and B-Movie Sci-Fi to me for some reason. Some taillights with LED look good though (and some are over-the-top cheesy). HIDs tend to be annoying and blinding when I meet them head-on, or they come up from behind in my side/rear mirrors. Some standard projector headlights look pretty cool, but I'm not sure how well they light versus a standard "old-school" headlight.

Remember sealed beam headlites? They were GLASS and never yellowed requiring buffing out to restore their light transmission.

And while about 5% of the motoring public know to buff them out the great unwashed don't know and don't do it and so are sharing roads with the rest of us and cant see 20 feet in front of their cars at night!

Halogens (H4) as used in the rest of the world (only the US mandated sealed beams, and nobody else) were also glass, with a replaceable bulb.

But both sealed beams and H4 headlights eventually either had the bulb grow dim or the reflector became all matte, and of course you couldn't shape them into much else than flattish and round, or flattish and square.

The headlights in my Yaris are the brightest and best shaped legal light I ever had in a car, thanks to their shape, so I won't complain. If they ever become yellow while I still have the car, I'll replace them. They're still crystal clear though.

And sealed beams were an abomination.
