My baby got hailed on!
So, I'm in the process of making a spot where I can park my second car off to the side of my single car driveway (and my Yaris in the garage) and the skies open up. Not only does the rain come down in buckets, it starts to hail! The hail was only about the size of a half a pea, but with all the talk of the thin paint, I thought my 6 day old Yaris was in deep trouble.
I'm happy to say that there is not a trace of damage after two bouts of hail. I should be done with the extra parking space tomorrow or Saturday, so hopefully this will prevent a repeat -- unless I'm on the road. But what can you do, huh? |

Whew, sounds like a close one! I always get nailed with a new car in some form, or fashion.

I had a truck go by me a couple of days ago that shewed pee gravel on my windshield. Got like 10 rock chips on the wind shield. I stopped the car got out and filled each hole emmediately with super glue which I do if I ever get a rock chip. Let it set up a couple of hours and then scrapped the over spill of super glue in the rock ship holes with a razor blade. And it looks pretty good. Seems to work. Been doing it for years since here in montana rock chips are just an everyday thing.

Holy Crap, that would piss me off to say the least! I have had my windshield fixed by a glass shop with the liquid stuff (can't tell), but never tried home remedy before. I guess your insurance company would get sick of the pro glass repair route if y'all get hammered that often. |

I went to the golf course the other day. I was amazed! They had golf balls as big as hail stones!
I had someone or something hit my driver's side door and scrape it the first month I had it. Then as I was driving down the road behind a truck a stone got thrown. It happened in like slow motion. It was coming right for my windshield so nailed the gas and prayed. Nope. Hit the roof and sounded like a grapefruit. 'Nother chip/dent. Then later I turn around to get the pump after opening the gas door and cap and I bumped the gas door creasing the door at the hinge. Sumbitch! |

If you happened to have old blankets and carpets lying around spread them out over the car as best as you can!

That is a great idea. It really wouldn't take much padding to keep you safe from the hail we normally get. There is a moving company close to me that sales the heavy duty blankets they use after they get a little tattered and I am going to check them out today. As small as my LB is I might only need one blanket. |

Yeah, I almost got an umbrella to at least protect the hood area, but I thought it would look extremely anal; blankets would be even worse. No, I finished the extra parking space today. It'll be a bit of a squeeze, but at least I'll be able to park my baby in the garage now.
As for the super-glue; I thought you meant on the paintjob at first. I thought, no way! But for the windshield, that's actually a great idea. I think I'll get some, just in case. I just jinxed myself. |
