yessir.... I have a Milestone, with locked bootloader, so i can't install any custom ROMs, but with just rooting there's a lot of extra tweaks available, for example i have a sexy all-black visual theme, I can overclock the processor, do wifi thethering, and so on. Also since i am not in the USA I can now fool the Market that I am there, and thus access paid apps :D

Some links that may provide you w additional ideas

http://www.pcworld.com/article/18407...ts_rooted.html

also check android central

http://forum.androidcentral.com/hack...ting-here.html

I seem to recall engadget had a much more recent article for those who are on the fence about rooting but I can't find it now.

Good luck with your decision :)

im not rooted yet, i want to wait till the 2.2 update for my moto droid and see if its really going to be a "whole new phone". google is reporting that the phone is going to be 4-5x faster and basically a whole new phone so that the people who can't upgrade to the droid x still have something to look forward to.

anyone download the new playstation emulator?!!!1 go to market and search PSX it costs 6$ but its so worth it, been playing FF7, gran turismo and all!!!!! freakin awesome

Froyo is supposed to make the phone faster, AND add some nice little benefits such as extended battery life, easy tethering, etc. but don't expect too much, though. Eventually you have hardware limitation to deal with. Don't worry, your Moto-Droid is still plenty good.

My EVO is fast but I'd be lying if I said the difference between using a moto-droid and an EVO is night and day. The biggest difference for me is the screen size, and having Sense UI on top of it. Myself, I prefer the simplicity of vanilla Android.

Anyway, there is a lot of info out there if you're in the mood to root and now that we've got the law on our side (at least in the US) .. happy modding ;) :D

I'm going to apologize in advance my cell phone lingo isn't the best. I read a how to article on how to flash spf recovery and then install through the bootloader long story short I installed a version of froyo 2.2 called sapphire. I can say the phone is much faster and smoother than it was previously, and I'm enjoying it!

Hey guys checking in after getting the hang of this whole rooting deal. I just loaded sapphire 1.0 and I'm loving it. its so easy and lots of fun to tinker around with new builds. Love the chrome to phone feature on froyo btw

well after the 2.2 update and noticed not much difference in speeds, i just rooted my phone with buglessbeast v0.4 and overclocked the phone to 1.25ghz with BB baseband on his website. phone is super fast now, crazy speeds and flies through all my apps no problem :D the only downside is battery life, but theres settings u can put if the phone starts to die to slow down the processing speeds to stock and what so ever

My RC helicopter dove into the ground from about 100 feet and now it's rooted.
