Many thanks. Searched online for a cure, found this post and joined the forum. Lubed the linkage joint with dri slide (motorcycle stuff) and the squeak is gone.

My issue has come back as well... Sigh. Only happens in dry weather. Along with the clutch shudder when it's wet out. I will be taking it back to the dealership as well. Actually, I'm going to call the head office in Toronto, Canada. Cheap parts!!!

I noticed a weak chirping sound last Friday, between 1st to 2nd gear, and 2nd to 3rd. Chirp-chirp is what I hear. I've been worried sick over having to take my car in--of course, the factory warranty was over in June. I have just over 23K mileage on mine.
So...is it lithium spray grease or silicone spray? Which is the best? I hope I can find the spot and this fixes it. |

White lithium grease spray was only $2.47 a can at Walmart. 30 seconds of my time and my squeak is gone! :) Kind of awkward due to the radiator hose being in the way.

I had the same squeak. I'm at about 83,000 miles. If you like instant gratification, this is a good one! WOW! Problem fixed the INSTANT i sprayed the part highlighted with the yellow circle and two yellow dots. WAY smoother shifting now, way less friction!. Huge difference (and I just changed my manual transmission oil to the Redline MT-90 stuff, and that helped slightly but was nothing compared to lubing these shifting linkages). I used Johnsen's Multi-Purpose Silicone Lubricant. Time will tell how long it lasts. If it lasts a long time, good, if not, next time I'm going to use a White Lithium Grease Spray. I removed the intake air filter box to make the access easier, but it's not completely necessary. Also, while my friend moved the stick through the gears, I sprayed all the moving parts, not just the "yellow circle with two dots" part. Thanks guys! This is a great forum!

I sprayed lithium grease on the linkage with great result the squeak disappeared.
But is it a sign that there's something wrong with the linkage? Like it needs to be replaced? because it's worn or something etc. ![]() My Yari is going great i'm happy to report it's an 07, 3-door hatch, 1.5 ltr engine. It's done 155 556 km and it's still going and keeps going. Touch wood! I sprayed the linkage added red line mt 90 along with nulon gearbox treatment. I changed the plugs, air filter, oil filter and of course did regular engine oil changes using full synthetic. Had wheel alignment and it's going well. I feel a bit of an improvement to the way it's running. Touch wood hoping it continues. Next in line is front brake pad change :) |

Yeah I was also using silicone for this, but it turns out that stuff only works while its viscosity is just right... After that it ends up making things worse, according to the mechanic.
