![]() If I were you I would definitely take pictures so the Judge knows what he's looking at. I would apologize, didn't know these little lights were illegal. Don't say you knew. And then try to get the ticket reduced. In today's economy, they can't expect people to produce money they don't have. Quote:
And thanks for the warning, Jamal. Good luck. Last edited by tomato; 02-26-2010 at 04:21 PM. |

thats why i like long island where i live, u have plea bargain, i dont know how it is everywhere else but i kno new york city doesnt have plea bargain, so basically u go to court, talk to the da about ur ticket and he decides if he is goign to offer u a lower fine, so the other day i went to court for my muffler modified, it was brought down to a parking ticket 50$ haha, i pleaded guilty to parking ticket instead of paying more for my muffler, da offers, u take or no take, u go in front of judge he approves.

Wether a light is too blue, etc is open to interpitation and it is usually left up to the cop's judegment.
However, when a cop want to hassle you, eveything is illegle. I once got a ticket for hyper white license plate lights and the cop (NYS trooper) said "they have to be yellow, not white" even thought the NYS law specifically states they must be "white". The ticket was dismissed. Anyway, $764 is rediculous and when you factor in it was not even your car, you might have good case in court to have it reduced. |

Edit: If you've passed a recent inspection with those lights on, I would take that documentation to court when you go, it may help. If not, they may at least revoke the inspection license of the inspection station that passed your vehicle. |

Blur lights aren't illegal everywhere. NE law states that you can even have blue "underglow" so long as it is not flashing and doesn't exceed 15 ft. Outside of your car in any direction.
So, before everyone gets terrified of blue lights and starts calling everyone else stupid for having them, check state laws first ;) |

Darb, I agree with you, ignorance of the law isn't going to get you off the hook (doesn't work here in CA either) but it may get you a lesser fine especially if you ask nice? Worth a try. Much better approach than the "oh, yeah, I was fully aware there was this law but I thought I'd try to get away with it" approach
![]() There is no denying or arguing he had the lights on his car, it's too late for that, but you can still try to do some damage control. my 2c though

![]() ...or one can keep living thinking that they're immune from any law. Like someone seems to do in Long Island. "Oh poor me, I got pulled over by those Nazi police for being a beacon of human civilization. I just don't understand why! I was just saving kittens and bringing about peace on Earth." This of course is said as the person is parting the Red Sea right after walking on water to raise dead people and exorsise demons... ![]() Perhaps I need my binkie and a blanket. I see people around my current location every day that try, they seem to make it a goal in life, to take advantage of "the system", of other people. There are very few that will take a straight path, nut up, and admit that they did wrong without blaming the woes that they have on something or someone else. So i suppose my thinking on the blue lights would be... drum roll please... ...fix the lights. Yes yes, try to reduce the ticket. It is what it is, if you get jacked up for having blue lights, so be it. I'd bet you probably won't do that again if you have to pay $764. On the other hand some of you may just want to keep being "innocent" and work the system for all it's worth.
