Lightbulb Online Photo Hosting Websites

So I did a search, but didn't see a thread for this topic. If there is one just let me know and I can have this one locked. I thought that it would be cool to have a place (possibly sticky'ed) to help people with figuring out places they can post their pics and videos online. Be it free or "premium" there are a lot of choices and some of them are not equal to others. For example some have free unlimited storage, some don't; some have premium unlimited storage, some don't; some allow videos, some don't...you get the picture (pardon the pun). I am hoping that others put in their input to help the newbies when they aren't sure where to go to be able to post up their sweet pics/vids as well as the seasoned vets out there looking for something different than what they are currently using.

1) Picturetrail.com - This is a decent site for those that prefer something free and have other features tied to it however they have a 500 image or 50MB regardless of whether you use the free service or pay the premium for a year. They have an old fashioned upload app and also a Java enhanced app that allows you to insert a big group of photos to upload. The last thing I can easily note is that they resize your photo upon upload. Unless I missed something they do not do video. You can share albums as you deem and can embed your photos in other sites in several ways. I didn't see a way for people to be able to post comments. You can order prints through them at these prices as of Aug 2k10:

Print Prices
Size Price
4 x 6" $0.12
5 x 7" $0.59
8 x 10" $2.35
4 Wallets 2 x 3" $0.85

2) MyPhotoAlbum.com - I just started using this site this week and so far I like it a lot. I purchased the premium account which gives you unlimited storage for both photos and videos. They have a Java based upload app as well as Flash. They do not resize your photo so you can keep the original dimensions which to me is really nice. I cannot really comment on other features yet, but to me so far it is worth the yearly premium which if memory serves is either 19 or 29 bucks. Oh yeah, their video upload size limit is 200MB and they do support HD as far as I can tell. You can share albums as you deem and can embed your photos in other sites in several ways. People can post comments to your photos if you allow it. They have numerous gift availabilities and can do prints as well. Here is the pricing for prints:

4x6 - 0.09
4xD - 0.09 (no cropping)
5x7 - 0.76
8x10 - 3.20

3) Photobucket.com - I really don't have much for experience with this site since I didn't really care for it too much.

4) YouTube.com - Video...nuff said. I find that their upload for video is horrendously show especially when it comes to uploading an HD video file. for video posting it probably has the largest global base out of the portals out there.

Photobucket is OK. I've been using it for a couple of years now. The main thing that I like about it is that they have a free apps for iphone and ipad that make it easy to work with it on the fly.

I like to use the public folder of my dropbox account sometimes. That way I am the one who owns the content and I can take it down anytime I want.

Dropbox FTW

You should really check out myphotoalbum.com then...it seems to be speedy for me and my upload rate seems to clip right along too.

I use smugmug.com. It's a premium site, with several tiers depending on your needs. I think I'm on the middle tier (allows video hosting in addition to the pics). I like them because they allow at least some privacy for the pictures I post (not available to be seen by everyone who visits the 'net).

I was previously using flickr.com. I started to not like how I couldn't really "manage" my pictures the way I wanted to.
