Wife wants to get rid of Yaris! Help!

Recently we realized that in the near future, we may need to carry 2 adults and 3 children in car seats on a semi-regular basis (like 3-4 times a month if unlucky). As it sits currently, 2 car seats (toddler and baby) fit rather perfectly in the back of our LB, with about a foot between them. A 3rd car seat will not fit, however.

I'm not really sure what to do... I love my Yaris, and have spent quite a bit of time and money on mods for it (quite a bit for me, any ways). I can't imagine too many small/fuel efficient cars that would be big enough to put 3 car seats into. My wife suggested (ugh) a minivan. I have only owned the Yaris for 2 1/2 years, and hate to even think about how it just recently finished depreciating. I'm pretty broke as of late, and can't really afford a 2nd or more expensive car.

I'd almost be interested in seeing if i could find some who could weld up a steel frame which replaces the back seat and would allow some sort of 2+1 seating for car seats, if i could trust the safety of such a setup. Even if i did feel it was safe, I'm not sure if my wife would agree to it.

Any one have any ideas? It seems like such a waste to sell it...

Three carseats across the backseat is pretty tough to do. I'm not even sure my 4Runner would fit 3 of them! Our MB E320 will fit 3 of them, but it only gets 22 mpg.

How about third carseat in front seat and wife sits in between two carseats in back?

I hate to say it, but I see a minivan in your future!

But don't fret, we've got the Honda Odyssey and it's a great vehicle. I'm just glad I have my Yaris and Jeep so I don't have to drive it all the time. Not that that would be a bad thing, it's fast, handles and will haul almost everything (and has eight seats plus cargo space!). We also get 20-22 mpg out of it. But I prefer my Yaris for committing, since it's usually just me by my lonesome and I get almost double the gas mileage!

Keep your Yaris and buy the wife an Odyssey. That solution worked for me!

Cheers! M2

I'd rather set fire to the car then get rid of my wife (despite her assertions to the opposite)

Honda Fit looks like a minivan. Show her that, maybe she'll let you keep the awesomous Yaris.

I think you properly need to say buy to your Yaris
with three kids think safety first, the scion XB current gen. would
fit nice and is cooler than the Fit or a mini van

A sedan? If mine fits 2 people up front and 3 adults nicely in the back it shouldnt be a big deal.

Meh other than that I believe youre screwed. Where did you picture hey having another kid would be awesome and not consider until after

-Broke
-No room in car

etc

You dug yourself in the hole man, best of luck I'd shit myself if someone made me get rid of my car atm. Especially if I'm paying it.

I know you do love ur lil LB so id say try to save up a lil chunk of money about 2k and get u a used sedan at a auto auction or something it doesnt have to be nice as long as it fits ur whole family,
I am saying this cus its what i did, I dont have a big fam. but I wanted something to go and come to work so i didnt have put so many miles on my yaris so I only used my Yaris when going to local meets here and stuff like that

Having a kid when you cannot afford it is BEYOND the stupidest thing you can do. Thats why there are teen pregnancies.

And in the end its his grandchildren so he has no control over it, I wouldn't get rid of my car over my kids children though it's like trying to tell your dad his car sucks when it is HIS not YOURS so who cares.

BUT you can always go to an auction buy a mini van for these things its what my uncle did.

1994 plymouth just needed new tires and it only has 80,000 kms lol

whats wrong with it? Nada just the tires.

You could always pay a AAA/BCAA mechanic an hour of 100$ to come with you at an auction and inspect a vehicle.

Well sorry to hear that but if thats the case, if my son felt that he or she was adult enough to have unprotected sex then they better feel adult enough to starting getting thier shit together, start thinking about future/get a job/get a home/ get a way of transportation.

I know family is family but sometimes gotta show some tuff love
