And this is clearly darwinism in action. I've had cars(both owned and rented) where the first thing I did was toss the floor mats. If you don't have the common sense to see a loose mat is gonna get caught under the pedals, you probably shouldn't be operating a car. The yaris is the first car I've driven with floor mats in a long time, because it has the clips.
Also, enough with the alarmism. They haven't even finished the investigation, and this is a VOLUNTARY recall by toyota.

Hm, you can still throw it in N and ease on the brake, jerking it will get you nowhere, I agree.
Hell, neutral, ease on the e-brake and slowly ease the car over to grind up against a guardrail for more friction.
