I've only had one other "new" car in my life (and it was a program car so not REALLY new), and this is my first new Toyota. The previous 5 Toyotas were all purchased used and driven until they dropped (or close to it).
I suspect that the Yaris attracts 2 types of people primarily: those who, like me, don't care about having fancy cars and want reliability and good gas mileage, and young folks who are just starting out and think it's cute.

And a 3rd type: those that got tired of spending big $$ on expensive luxury cars, high performance/sporty cars and loaded convertibles, thinking I needed a new one every year or two. Too much wasted on big monthly payments and insurance so I decided to get a 3-door Yaris w/o power options;
actually my favorite car of all I've owned.
