For those that plan on keeping their Yaris for 10-20 years dont you think the possibility exists that in that time you might get bored with the little economy car and want to move on to something else? With so many cars out there to experience and life being somewhat short i just couldnt imagine driving the same little econobox for 20+years.

I'm 47 years old and have always had plain, simple cars. I don't think that's gonna change at this point. I'm also not a big believer in ditching cars and getting new ones. It's neither economical nor ecological. I've only had one other "new" car in my life (and it was a program car so not REALLY new), and this is my first new Toyota. The previous 5 Toyotas were all purchased used and driven until they dropped (or close to it). I suspect that the Yaris attracts 2 types of people primarily: those who, like me, don't care about having fancy cars and want reliability and good gas mileage, and young folks who are just starting out and think it's cute.

![]() I've never owned a luxury car but I've learned throughout my life that I don't even like simpler luxuries like power locks. Every little trinket that can be added onto a vehicle can fail easily, is expensive to repair and adds to the initial cost of the vehicle considerably. Even though I've not owned a luxury vehicle I know plenty of people that have, and I'm not impressed. An associate of mine has a Porsche Cayenne turbo which spends 3 days a month in the shop. That's 10% of its life! ![]() Touch screen display issues, heated seats not working, power locks no longer engage... these are prime examples of fluff items failing, causing a trip to a shop even though not one of them has anything to do with the car starting up and driving down the road. Life has enough drama without creating more for ourselves, and there are much more important and lasting things to do with my money.

You have NO idea how hard it was to FIND even a Yaris w/out power windows/doors! OMG! There were a grand total of 2 5-speeds w/out the power package w/in 600 miles of me (and I'm near a large city). Esp since the whole point of this car is simple and inexpensive, that really surprised me.
I've had 2 vehicles w/ power stuff -- my 1988 Ford Bronco farm truck, which locks me out on a regular basis all by itself, including when it's TURNED OFF. And the Mitsubishi Expo POS that I got almost new and that had electrical problems its whole short life.I have hands. I can roll windows up and down and press door locks all by myself!

A car is a tool. It serves a purpose. I've leased cars for the past 10 years. Next year the lease on my Tucson is done. It will be cheaper to pay the residual than to put a down payment on a new one. The year after that, it's my Yaris' time. Same deal. After that, I'll keep both until it is no longer economically feasible to do so. The Tucson is great for carrying stuff, or the family with luggage. The Yaris does everything else. If I drop the back seat, I can get all my goalie gear in there. I've owned for status, I've owned for looks, now I reached that autrity level where I own for functionality. |

Not a chance. In fact, I'm very sad that I'll have to leave my old corolla behind soon. If the original owner hadn't let the rust get so bad I'd be willing to invest a lot more more to keep it going as long as possible. Hope to love my next car just as much. (and not let it start rusting!)
