Hey Alex, you're a tech guy (At least I'm under the influence that you are, I could be wrong.), I have a question for you.

A friend of mine has a dead hp pavillion dv2000 with a SATA hard drive in it, I should be able to get any SATA compatible enclosure for it, yes? I imagine it's the standard 2.5" dimensions.

Yes, the Laptop and Desktop SATA connections are the same

why is it dead? what symptoms?

Hey..it's getting pretty down and dirty around here. Don't estimate Kenosha. LOL

They have to occasionally shut down the high schools because of gang activity. The problem is we have rival gangs from both Chicago and Milwaukee who come here to cause trouble.
