I remember that too- not the same guy mind you, but the milkman would place the milk,cream,eggs,butter,etc. in a small insulated tin box on the front steps.

My wife grew up in the Bronx and she and her brothers remember a guy driving around with a small "carnival" ride on trailer. He'd set it up in 5 minutes and would charge 25 cents to ride the Whip!

Kind of makes me wonder where my mom and dad in-law were!
