Say bye-bye to GeoCities

Yahoo has announced that they will be shutting it down later this year. One headline said it best:

"Goodbye GeoCities, we had forgotten that you still existed"

Yahoo screwed them up, going back on agreements and selling private information to third parties. I think free web hosting is going to fall by the wayside. The internet is turning into a cash cow.

I don't care how awful Geocities was/is, they did a lot for us all. That's sad news in my book.

The only time I used Geocities was to host some files that I was sharing with an investment group. I never made a web page there or on AOL.

Ok, now this is AMAZING! The Alta Vista search engine is still around. Who knew? Who cares?

For those of you who have been on the web as long as I have, I need to see if NCSA Mosaic is still around. Or the Lynx (text only) browser.
