Heading to an appeal hearing to try to persuade the Dept of Labor that despite what my ex-employer says, I did NOT leave work "voluntarily" - the whole frikkin' shop was laid off pending receivership, and I was one of those not hired back at the other end of it.
Wish me luck... It would be nice to actually GET unemployment pay for a change.

Thanks! Hearing went well, but we don't get the official decision until they write us a letter, so we are "cautiously optimistic", but that's all.
Ugh! Still, better than having no hope at all.

Fingers Crossed 4 ya. If it doesn't work out you could always migrate here to Australia and make boats, we are a nation entirely surrounded by ocean.

Well, the meeting went well, I think. The key words for me were (addressed to The Enemy) "How can Mr. Baker resign from a job you had laid him off from 2 weeks earlier?"
Updates will come when results are in (must be sent in a letter, no hints given on the day)

This is interesting.... they're going to claim, falsely, that you did not return to work? How will they make this claim?

Don't blow off temp services, by the way. I get the axe again I'm going to apply around. I'll have a job one way or the other. Unemployment sucks.

I've been laid off six times in my life. It never gets any easier. We're expecting a chop this fall. I moved to a new department, which is a lot busier and has tougher projects. Better too busy than not busy at all.
