Shroomster, I almost did.
Putting one back in the mail today was *REALLY* hard. ![]() In the end the guy at HTC helped me make the decision. (nice people at HTC, by the way) I truly didn't know until the last moment. And I'll give you the reasons for the choice if you're interested. Each device has a lot to offer and some drawbacks. Picking one over the other was a matter of trade-offs, I guess. main reasons: bigger screen, more ROM, bigger SD card (ok that last one is not that big a deal), better camera (suprised me, there! but I'm actually using it and leaving my Canon at home!) but most importantly more reliable network
I hate to say it cause I'm still not a huge fan of Sprint but in the Bay Area (SF in particular) they really have good coverage. So in the end, I went with that. I miss the N1 already because: ![]() ![]() - better battery life - better looking AMOLED screen (indoors at least) - easier to hold and to operate one-handed - nice, sturdy metal construction, beautiful unit - trackball was kind of handy, plus it lit up when you got mail - vanilla android FTW, simple uncluttered look, easy to operate - Landscape KB really easy to use, uncluttered, perfect - faster Google updates straight from big G months ahead of everyone else - unlocked / no carriers' bloatware pre-loaded and no carriers' restrictions - T-Mobile IMO is a much better company, better plans, better customer service - loved how all the apps on the N1 interacted smoothly together. - The little things: cool little stuff like the "android" emoticons built in the texting app, the gooffy 'DOINK" ringtone, the little Android neoprene sleeve that came with it, nice touch... - finally it was a GSM phone, means I could take it with me when I go abroad. Oh, well. It's gone now so I get to play with my new EVO friend. The screen is fabulous and signal is strong which makes internet surfing much more pleasant. Call quality seems to be good. Sense UI, I found out, can be turned on or off on the EVO without rooting, so if I ever get sick of it (already turned off half of the widgets) I can turn it off . And then, of course you can always root and put your own custom ROM on it ;) Maybe in time when I feel more confident, I will So that's the end of the story for me I think. I'm still well within my 30 days but I'm done looking, this unit is just gonna have to do since I signed the contract. I'm confident that if there is any manufacturer's defect (like TK mentioned, for instance), HTC will make it right for me. Otherwise, the ETF on Sprint is $200 ;) Give me a few days and I'll give you some fmore feedback on the EVO if you're interested. Anyway, what do you guys think of my decision? tips, tricks, criticism, all welcome

I **truly ** loved the N1 (I think the N1 is one of the most underrated phones out there right now) but I'm warming up to the EVO a little more every day ![]() (hard not to) Figuring how to work Sense UI was a bit of a pain at first, but it also has some benefits. Word! Woudn't have it any other way !! :D ![]()

Let us know how you like it, my wife is due for a phone upgrade in August and that is the one she wants... I have the HTC Hero and love it. I just wish the screen was a bit bigger as my eyes are starting to go bad due to age. Cheers! M2

GOOD CHOICE TOMATO......at least for your area; Sprint coverage is horrible in my house and families neighborhoods...least you have android still :-D
@Rain...yeah my wife (if you've read the rest of this thread) is the same way [at least about the keyboard and facebook] she LOVES the mTslide and it runs smooth on facebook. but yeah most everything now is in APP form. there are apps SOLELY FOR turning on or off the bluetooth or the speaker on the phone. plus yeah a task killer is the most effective way of shutting down unwanted runnin apps; however if you can figure out how to turn the sync options on to sync only when you want it would keep most of them from running. |

![]() Actually, the size of the screen was a deciding factor for me too. You can zoom some of the apps but not all of them (that depends on the apps), and there isn't an option to increase the font size all across the board like you can do on a blackberry, so as a result, some things are really hard to see on a smaller screen. If you already have Sprint then you know that where you get signal, it's very good. Also, I believe 4G is already lit up in TX, but you'll have to check which areas are getting it or not and when. Even if you don't get 4G, 3G on the EVO seems plenty fast to me. The device really flies, there is no lag whatsoever, even with multiple applications open. You already know how to use Sense, so you're ahead of me right there. Give me a little bit of time, and I'll give you more feedback. I'll be back later and see if I can dig out the most useful reviews and videos on the EVO. Right now, if you asked me if I would recommend the EVO to a friend, the answer is ** absolutely ** |

I just played with the droid evo, my cousin just got her's not too long ago, and wow am i impressed. The front camera is pretty damn good quality and the main camera is freaking sweet. The screen is huge and yet it fits perfectly in your hand like a phone should and in your pocket, and truthfully with sprints 4g network, it downloaded music pretty fast from MP3 Music Wizard app I got her.
But overall they did a test and the Motorola Droid is best when it comes to graphics and such, heres the report and video..... http://www.gadgetsdna.com/motorola-d...credible/3789/ |
