so since custom is getting him next, you're skipping 11 and 12? that means he's coming sooner, yay

Peeps who are not currently active in the forum are going to be skipped.

Some of the people before you, Garm, haven't been active on here in months, so yeah, I would predict you get the bear fairly soon.

[I can't speak for Darb, of course, but I would imagine that if you should resurface after being inactive for a while and realize you have been skipped, just PM Darb to get yourself put back on the list? Seems fair to me. ]

Romania? Ouch. How much does Bamboo weigh these days (with outfit?)
If you do send Bamboo overseas, he needs to go air mail otherwise, you're looking at 6 weeks transit if you send him ground.

BTW, when was the last time we heard from these guys? If they're not active in the forum, they're gonna get skipped.

well both of them last had activity around 6/10/10 so i guess they would be considered "active." and i was looking at flat rate boxes with USPS international to romania and a medium box that would fit bamboo would be about $43. yeah, ouch lol

wait a minute. That's way too much money.

the bear itself is almost exactly 2 OZ if memory serves. Add some kind of Tyvec envelope to it, and you're at about 2.5 OZ. That does not take into consideration the weight of the garment and stuff he's wearing, though.

If you do have to send the bear to Europe, someone should hang on to the garment, I think because it looks like that's at least another ounce or possibly two. with air mail, everything adds up quickly.

I shipped some kind of outfit to my brother in Europe once, and the outfit cost like $25 or $30 bucks but the shipping was close to $40!!

I'm totally intrigued.

I wonder if this involves possibly driving the bear in person to a Northern Cal. meet?

there you go.

1 pound to Romania, first class mail, with certificate of mailing:

First-Class MailŪ International Package (1 pounds 0 ounces) $10.76
Certificate of Mailing 1.15
Total $11.91

It'll have to go in an envelope, though, forget the box.

Anyway, this looks a little better already.

http://ircalc.usps.gov/Summary.aspx?...=0&mt=5&es=100

Can someone weigh the panda? I'm starting to have doubts about the 2 OZ. I think when I went to the post office, they made me go priority mail so it may have been much more than 2 oz, especially with the box.

I have a feeling it will cost more than that but the key when you send stuff overseas is to make it as light as possible b/c airmail costs quite a bit. So forget a fancy box and what not. The package needs to be sturdy however. and don't forget to attach a "C1" to tell Customs what it is, mark "gift / no commercial / resale value" and declare a small amount ($5). One thing I learned the hard way, though, don't use stamps. Post office doesn't like a lot of stamps on packages. In SF you can't even drop a package with stamps on it in a regular mailbox, it has to be stamped by the post office.

well with delivery confirmation, he was about 6 bucks total in a tyvec package so my guess is about 18... so how about a little pool for the cost idea...

and if it helps, i will offer to help by chipping in a couple bucks to custom to help offset the added cost of overseas shipping... wish i had thought of it earlier though... would have just sent a couple bucks in there with bamboo...

You'll be sending Bamboo to Wisconsin. I've reminded SIPNGAS that she's up next. She was swamped at school these last couple months but wants to participate. :) She won't disappear.

I was fortunate enough to have the OG Bambo last year around this time to take with me to ImportAlliance. Good times, good times. A 10 hour drive with the little guy and all he wanted to do was stop at every craft store on the way down to TN

guys, best way to ship overseas is a USPS flat-rate box. It's trackable and a fixed cost, and the box can be re-used to send him back.

You can even pre-print the return label and include it in the box.
