Those boys were in there like swimwear. I tightened them with an open ended lug nut. Like you said, the studs were too long. Do you know for which vehicle your new studs were made for?

Don't know. I took my OEM stud to NAPA and the counter guy rooted through the bins of studs until he found one ~10mm longer with the same knurl diameter.
If it'll do you any good, the NAPA part# is 641-2196 If you didn't do so, I would highly recommend using an impact wrench to seat the bolts. Given the length of the Ichiba studs, I suspect they went in at a slight angle. Without an impact, it is very difficult to pull the studs in absolutely 100%. By the time you've done all you can do by hand, with the mounting plate wanting to spin, the stud head may not be sitting tight around it's entire diameter. The result would be studs installed a slight bit off of true perpendicular to the mounting plate surface.
