Toyota 20 pin AUX connector. Which wire is Which?

Hi there,

I have a Daihatsu Sirion car (same underpinnings as yaris, sold as toyota passo)

anyway, I am looking to connect up to the AUX connector on top of the radio.

It is a toyota 20 pin connector

There are 4 wires on top of the unit on a 20 pin toyota type AMP connector. The colours are purple, orang, blue and green/grey(not sure)

I take them to be left, right, common and ground detection

I just need to know which wire is which. I assume then that I connect the common and ground together on a 3.5mm jack and then the left and right separate

If I connect the orange and green together on a 3.5mm line socket and connect the purple to left and the blue to right, will it then just work?

Where can I get the 20 pin connector, or should I just cut it off and fit something easily available?

A resistor is needed with the switch line. I believe it is 2.2K. There is a thread on here somewhere where I posted the correct value.

I would just snip the connector and wire it directly to your input jack.

Ok. Thats great. I take it that the resistor flow must travel towwrds the radio? Am I otherwise correct in how to wire this? Does the proper toyota socket have the resistor built in? I am sorry for asking so many questions but I want to be sure I do it right first time.

No problem. The resistor is connected to the switch contact of the 1/8" phone jack on the OEM one, so when you insert a cable the contacts close providing the radio with a 2.2K ohm resistance to ground on the AUXI pin.

So, you would solder the resistor between the green and orange wires.

If you are using an OEM Aux jack, then you don't need the resistor, but if you are making your own then you will.

Ok. I will be making my own, as I am not planning to sell a kidney anytime soon to fund getting a genuine one :)

I just have to get my round wiring the resistor between the green and orange wires now!

I am bit stupid sometimes when it comes to following what to do.

Are you basically saying to joint the green and the orange wire using a resistor (at the input end of the resistor) and then take the output end of the resistor to the common pin on the 1/8 panel mount audio connector?

The resistor will go between the green and orange wires. The orange wire will stop there (it will not go out to the phone jack).

Where the green and the resistor meet will then go on to the common pin of the phone jack.






Ground-----Green------/\/\/\/-------Orange

I presume I need a switching jack socket, otherwise the radio would be on aux all the time!

On the radios over here you have to hit a button to put it in aux mode, so the switch within the jack simply enables use of that button. So, if yours has the same, I would wire it as above and not use a switched jack.

My Radio, does not appear to have any additional buttons so I am pretty sure I need a switched socket

OK. So in that case the resistor will not be connected on the radio end. You will instead bring the orange wire to the jack and then connect the orange wire to one side of the switch for the socket. The other end of the socket will be connected to the resistor and the other end of the resistor to the ground wire.

That appears to be the correct connector. When you purchase a connector from Toyota you don't get the pins, so you would also have to purchase the 4 pins (which are typically about $12 each).
