My Radio, does not appear to have any additional buttons so I am pretty sure I need a switched socket

OK. So in that case the resistor will not be connected on the radio end. You will instead bring the orange wire to the jack and then connect the orange wire to one side of the switch for the socket. The other end of the socket will be connected to the resistor and the other end of the resistor to the ground wire.
